when listening to that show, bearing in mind that Say Goodbye is by far and away my #1, ending the show on it is kind of awkward and empty. It's badass because it's different, but not badass in execution.

This is one of my favorite versions of Too Much. The ending jam is really something else. Aside from the band playing exceptionally well, Dave omits the previously popular "Lil' John" outro and in its place lets out some amusing scatting and noises that really fit the end of the song. The ending is worth the download by itself.

One Sweet World - 5/26/99
http://www.mediafire.com/?aobdfkxvcgl
Rob kinda pokes at me for constantly pimping this show, but I just can't help it. It's the perfect candidate for a release. As Bill said to me earlier, it would be a great show to release and also kill two birds with one stone; another '99 show and a Giants Stadium performance. This One Sweet World is as smooth of a version as you'll find. I'm not sure if I've already posted this performance in this thread or not, but either way it deserves another listen and more attention. For who love the song dearly, but are just sick and tired of seeing it in the opening slot, giving you a blah vibe towards the song...please download this version. You may or may not find something here, but I sure do everytime I listen. Everything is gracefull with just the right touches here and there. Dave's vocals, Carter's playfull fills throughout, Roi's clarity, Stefan's more prominant outro, and Butch's continuous play within DMB's arrangements. With the very end, you could tell the band was so into this performance.
------------------------------------------------
#41 (41 Police) - 4/18/95
http://www.mediafire.com/?abmg2xvz9bn
Hands down, one of my favorite versions of not only the early performances of 41, but out of 'em all. The humble and passionate beginnings of this song were quiet and were built ever so slowly with each passing performance. Even during each version little bits were added and then taken away, as if the direction of the song was dictated by what the band was feeling during that particular moment. I LOVE the way the band comes in with those build ups to kick off these early versions and this is my favorite. It was quick and punchy but not sloppy. I think even back then the band knew that this was something special even though the kinks weren't worked out yet and it wasn't laid down on a record. It seemed like they treated each version with respect, allowing all the colors and emotions to take over. During these early performances of #41 it showed one of those rare moments where the band was just around the corner, right on the verge of perfection, all the while allowing the music to be #1 as the band willingly became #2. Turn this one up and enjoy.
Lyrics:
Running to it here again
Wonderin' what they say
Full of anguish and time is back on you
I guess she walked away again and passed home
And I thought can't we find a place
We will leave it back, it rains from a candy cloud
Finally found ourselves happy
And now I'm coming back
Wondering where the fools who'd ride from the side of this place
And race it, the rain
When I came runnin' wonderin why
All this time is spent on empty purpose
Stay
I wonder why I feel it when you're gone
And I lay down
And I'm over this great down in my head
There I go
See me stand in the better time of self
The lady's red
It revlieve my pain from now on
Just I'm wondering where I should go
[some wailing]
I won't hold back the faith that's passing me
I won't say now
That I'm screaming
Falling
Fall
Come and take time here
Hold it here
Won't look back from here this way down
Hold it there
Don't look back
Leave me down to you

http://www.mediafire.com/?flhdx512cmx
One of my favorite versions. This whole show is perfect and it's one of those shows where Dave said 'thank you' at least a dozen times and kept saying how great he felt. It was one of those great shows that had such a playful vibe that new things were bound to happen, such as the first ever performance of Hold Me Down, and here on this version of #36 Dave does his first and last call and response with the crowd.

What You Are Outro (2002-04-26)
I ramble to people on a daily basis about how incredibly powerful this outro is.
from the almanac:
[outro]
I was old and paralyzed with you gone
I would dream so softly
but maybe if you took the time out
you might get a clue for missing oh
but I won't wreck you love wreck you love
love, God, grow rain all around me yeah yeah
it's way up there with the 4.20.02 and 12.8.98 #41 outros for me in chill-inducing factor. it throws all kind of punches for a song that many view as sub-par.

sorry to top this for a request, but does anyone happen to have Say Goodbye from 8.27.05, & 8.30.05? It's hard to believe, I know, but it seems like the 2005 shows aren't well represented on DT any more. I'll put up the first 3 requests that I can fill in return for the top.

Sure, why not.
I hope we get more August '95 releases. So far we have three, RR '95 and Live Trax 5, and Live Trax 12, (5/5, 8/19 and 8/23/95). Also a few single song performances such as Lover Lay Down from 8/17 and Minarets from 8/31.
1995 is my favorite year by this band and Feb and August remain my favorite months of that year. They began Aug. of that year in Santa Fe, New Mexico and by the 31st they were in Mansfield, MA. In between those two places this band exemplified the exact reason why people use the words drive, hunger, passion, etc... when describing the early days. They were playing quick, fast-paced performances but were beginning to tighten up as only a band growing and evolving can do.
August '95 saw Red Rocks which became the band's first official live release 2 years later. Returning the Mesa, AZ and other Southwest gigs after their successful run there in May. The Greek Theater gave us some of the finest versions of Say Goodbye, Warehouse, and of course Boyd and Roi's shining moments in a fumbled performance of the Dead's "Eyes Of The World". The band also still heavily promoting UTTAD with their Ants Marching performance on Leno, still filling large Halls and Amphitheaters from the small clubs and ballrooms they were playing in not 6 months earlier.
In the midst of their extremely busy schedule that year they still managed to squeeze in two HORDE shows for Popper in the middle of that month, 8/18 and 8/19/95.
8/18/95
http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453055245&tid=38&where=1995
8/19/95
http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453055246&tid=38&where=1995
I always loved the HORDE sets and shows because the majority of the crowd were not there strictly to see DMB so when at the end of every HORDE set in '94-'96 the crowd favored them as if they were the headliner, it really put the year and the band's progress into perspective. 8/18 and 8/19 are no different.

I love the vibe of that whole show. So ridiculously chill - I have to be in the mood for it, but when I am it is perfect.

Don't know if this has been posted before but here's my favorite Recently (11/27/93).
It's just over 15 minutes long, features Warren Haynes (on acoustic!), Pretty, Pretty Girl outro, 3 Beatles interpolations and a nice jam section in the middle that's unlike any other version you've heard.

I love the part about 15 minutes into Two Step when it is just Butch playing the 3 notes - very unique version.

I had made a similar post a few years back in this thread and will have to make it again because I lost the tracks...
but two D+T performances that people MUST hear (including myself)
1/29/94 - Wetlands - Two Step
8/25/94 - Birchmere - Ants Marching
if anyone could post these for me, I'd really appreciate it.

Awesome, definitely checking this out. my fav version so far has been the nature >> recently from 8.14.93 I believe? It is the one that ended the show, no encore. I LOVE that one, but maybe I will have to change my mind after this.
