Butch is pretty overlooked on that 4/20/02 performance of #41. Everything he adds, from the opening notes, to the overlays on the Sojourn Jam, he's outstanding.

Sounds beautiful until he comes in with his cheapness. Otherwise, I'll agree, very enjoyable. But for those 40 seconds he ruins the melody.

I love the synth effects ontop of the Sojourn jam. It's such a beautiful contrast. Very reminsicent to a lot of previous Flecktones work from the mid 90's.

Well, there you have it. Different preferences. As you and me, well - me and everyone - tend to have concerning butch. Im just not big on the synth effects. If he had been playing straight up piano I think that would have been beautiful. But, like I said, thought he sounded great everywhere else.
And yes, if nothing else, very reminscent of the early 'Tones.

Yes. He is phenomenal on this version. The build up with him and Carter is out of this world.
Also, Roi on the 41 on Listener Supported, and the Seek Up on the Gorge.
Jeff Coffin adds some great stuff during the second chorus of the 9-16-00 Two Step.

I agree. I mean on the surface that's not saying much, but it truly was a great performance.

Badass DMB things:
The opening riff to So Right
Tim's part on Too Much
Dave's riff in the outro to Bayou
The band joining in to start Minarets after the scat intro
Carter and Leroi tearing the sweet fuck out of Kit Kat Jam

I really like the way they took the end of the song and turned it into something substantial...hopefully whenever it comes back again, they play a similar ending.

spring 99 two step, dave was doing this cool little riff on the acoustic that seemed to stick out above all. i remember the g-stad1 show as being one of the better ones for that riff.
