Does anyone know what the VIP Upgrade gets you at Alpine? I saw that Live Nation had this for sale on their website. It doesn't include a concert ticket, but will upgrade your existing ticket so you have access to a VIP lounge. Is it worth it? I do remember last year not being able to buy anything to drink except Bud Light or something - does this lounge have a full bar?

not a full bar, but more variety and very expensive

it also has a buffet before the show

but it's way up the hill, so if you plan on going to get a drink during a song, don't expect to be back to your seat before that song ends

Thanks. It's $60 per person, so it doesn't sound worth it.

Not at all. I've been there before, its not a bad place to go hang out if you aren't into tailgating. They have a pretty good buffet, private bathrooms, and a band playing on the balcony. That being said, I love tailgating, and the beer/drinks are still full price up there. Not worth the price.

OK, one more question for any Chicago area people -- what is a realistic estimate for how long it will take to drive from Lake Geneva, WI back to Chicago O'Hare on July 5th (which is likely a holiday for a lot of people)? If I had a 10am flight, how early would I need to leave?

Do most people take the 94 freeway between O'Hare and Alpine? Last year we took little highways and it took forever to get there.

i would say around 2 hours, if not more. it should only take 1, but Lake Geneva is going to be packed that weekend and there will be a lot of people coming back.

for a 10 am flight, i would probably try to leave between 6 and 7. at that time the traffic shouldnt be too bad.

Thanks. I went with the 10am flight because I need to get home Monday and for some ridiculous reason there are very few flights between Chicago and So Cal (my choices were 10am and 5pm). Should make for a miserable drive to the airport.

Last year it took over 4 hours to drive from Midway airport to Lake Geneva on Saturday, but we took all the little highways. Think we'll try the freeway this time.

Do the seat numbers on sections 201 and 203 start from the inside or outside? ie. is seat 2 in section 203 right next to 202 or on the far outside? I tried looking at the seating charts, but the ones with seat numbers are so tiny I can't figure them out.

The lower the seat numbers in sec 201 or 203 the closer you are to the center section

Which resort? Is there actually a resort in Alpine?

Since you're from So Cal -- have you ever flown out of John Wayne (Santa Ana) Airport? It was $100 cheaper to fly out of there to Chicago than San Diego. Should I expect long lines or is it a small airport?

i'm not from Cali but have been through John Wayne several times. it's one of my favorite stops because it is much smaller than the typical airport. it has always been one of the fastest airports for me. i've only been delayed once there and that was due to MSP (my destination) being bombarded with copious amounts of snow. so it had nothing to due with Orange Co.

i'd be more concerned with Chicago if you're heading into O'Hare (pretty much the worst airport for delays ever).

as for the resort... there are a couple around the area. i know of a nice one in Lake Geneva, but i've never done the resort thing.

Thanks for the info. We actually live 1/2 way between the San Diego airport and John Wayne, but I'd never flown from there. The difference in price should make up for driving north on the 5 in the morning.

:dunno i've never been delayed at O'Hare or Midway

lol

Midway i can see (i don't think i've ever experienced much of a delay there), but O'Hare sucks. i avoid it at all costs depending on the season. flights get backed up at the drop of a hat there. be it a thunderstorm or winter weather... de-icing wings... etc, i've just had the worst luck there. i'm not saying the airport sucks, but it deals with midwest weather, which can change on a dime, and it's a major hub. it just comes with that territory.

I've never had major trouble at O'Hare. Flown in and out about a dozen times total. *knock on wood*

maybe it's the connection thing. I live here, so it's never a connection. hmm....

according to Avoid Delays/USDOT, O'Hare is in the top 4 in the amount of arrival and departure delays (Miami and SF being the two worst). Midway is actually higher on departure delays.

http://www.avoiddelays.com/

and i'm sure connections play a role in OHare success. a connection heightens the probably of delay since OHare sucks at both equally.

Having 40,000 people randomly break into a song (that was pretty awesome in 2008)...then have the band play it into halloween? Yeah, it was a cool moment. And I'm not even a huge "thank you" fan. It was something that could only occur at certain venues. It was neat.

well the thank you chants were a cry back to 2008 last year... kind of the "hey remember we did this at alpine in 2008 for like 20 minutes after the show ended and the pavilion stayed full" type of thing. last year was homage to that and the band remembered it and "rewarded" the crowd with some halloween. this year, it just wouldn't make that much sense.

well the thank you chants were a cry back to 2008 last year... kind of the "hey remember we did this at alpine in 2008 for like 20 minutes after the show ended and the pavilion stayed full" type of thing. last year was homage to that and the band remembered it and "rewarded" the crowd with some halloween. this year, it just wouldn't make that much sense.

the band likes alpine. shows will be good.

I have this feeling that it is the year of the one night stands, and most two nighters will just be average.

We had two people in our group who desperately were searching for tickets (just lawns) last year on Saturday. One of them was able to buy a single by letting someone cut in the poster line, the other searched the lots all day, didn't find anything.

Then, looking for tickets at the entrance gate 5 minutes for DMB came on, she stepped on a ticket someone had dropped on the ground. One of the most absurd things I'd ever heard.

There are 2 General Parking lots, one to the Northeast (Molitor), and one to the Southeast (Yount/Uecker)...

Molitor- This one is very easy to get out of and onto the freeway, but the tailgating is less exciting.

Yount/Uecker- When you leave through the center exit, most cars turn right and line up to get on the freeway. Instead, go straight onto a small road...this will take you towards downtown with very little traffic. You can take this road all the way downtown in about 10 minutes, or follow signs to the freeway about a mile down.

Here's a map...the beige lane in between Yount & Uecker is the "center" exit I'm talking about.

Tickets at Alpine are so iffy -- after last year I was scared to buy anything that wasn't in 202 (I don't want to be in the pit). I'm way back in 202 on night 1 (row WW), but that seemed safer than taking a chance on being off to the side in 201 or 203 and not being able to see. Hope I don't regret it.

sitting at home in Chicago. grabbing the rental soon and heading to woodstock to hang until about 6:30. :) No tailgating this year, just in for a leisurely stroll into the show.

Is anyone driving from Lake Geneva to Milwaukee airport on Monday morning by chance? Plans sort of got messed up and I could use a lift. I'll check back here but you can also catch me at yahoo email with coster95.

Anyone know why the 3 screens above the stage weren't there at Alpine? They were there at Deer Creek, and the other venues I've seen videos from...

I enjoy mine from both nights. Great sound with band/crowd like you said. It was kinda nice being 20 or so rows back with that slope.

I heard he is a douche. Just an awful human being. In fact, I heard he sold his mother for smack money.

really appreciative of everyone who tapes DMB. For as much as I tape, I still don't feel comfortable setting up in seats in an amphitheater - lugging all that stuff in, and too much crowd shit that can go wrong.

Were any of you tapers set up in 202 UU around seat 120 for N1? The guy in front of me was wasted, and used the tape stand in front of him all night for stability. It was pointing backwards for a while and kept getting lower and lower. Then during the encore someone (presumably the taper) came in and just took it down and walked away with it.
