Presenting the Dave Matthews Band with their 35th, 36th, and 37th appearances at:
The Gorge Amphitheatre
September 3, 4, 5, 2010
George, WA

Venue Information:
The Gorge Amphitheater is one of, if not the, most famous venues in dmb history. Aside from Trax and Floodzone, it is the most often visited venue by the band and has been sold out every show they've played.

It is located on the picturesque edge of a cliff overlooking the Columbia river gorge in the remote deserts of central Washington state. The majestic view is enough to take anyone's breath away let alone the experiences of camping with friends underneath a crystal clear view of the Milky Way's spiral arms as well as swimming in the refreshing Columbia river.

Nevertheless, impressive scenery and great camaraderie is not the only attraction for DMB fans to this venue. Shows in the past have consistently featured the rarest setlists of the tour and are performed with exceptional zeal and energy. So when the band decided to release their first box set, the choice was obvious.

All things considered, it is no surprise that the band's annual runs at the Gorge have become not only the best place to see both DMB and mother nature at their finest but also a mandatory pilgrimage for any enthusiastic dmb fan.

This will be my first trip to the Gorge and I'm working on logistics now. There is a JetBlue flight that arrives in SEA at 3pm on 9/3. Google says it's 149 mi – about 2 hours 21 mins, with carry-on I'm assuming this flight will work. Any input from past Gorge-goers?

I'd suggest getting into the area on Thursday if that's an option. It makes the trip so much better having that extra day.

Thursday wont work on my end but I did just find a flight that arrives in SEA on 9/3 at 12:10pm local time. It's only $279 round trip from PWM (Portland, ME). The return doesn't leave until 10pm on Monday which is fine as I can take Tuesday off and will give me a chance to check out Seattle.

I'm going to book this now with a rental car. We did get the Best Western package via WH.

Any other tips?

If anyone flying out of Boston finds cheap flights, please share the info after you book your flight. I know sometimes JetBlue does crazy discounts where it's like under $100 each way from Boston to Seattle. I will post here if I find some good deals as well.

I think the way it is working at some venues is if you have WH GA Pit, you get in a half hour earlier than the regular GA Pit. Not sure if this is the case for the Gorge, I would suggest e-mailing the Warehouse.

WH early entry only at arenas and stadiums, not amphitheaters. I'ca doing premier camping which offers early entry so I should be good to go. :hump

Do we know this for sure? There haven't yet been amp shows with the GA, so I'm just wondering if you're basing this off the fact that it's only been at arena/stadium shows from last summer, or if the WH specifically said that the rule only goes for arena/stadium shows.

So I'm contemplating coming to the Gorge this year for the first time since 2007. Is it still the norm that Saturday tickets are completely hard to come by and Fri & Sun tickets will be everywhere? I haven't even shopped around yet so I'm not sure if tickets are harder to get this year.

This year will be my first trip out, our group of six will be staying at the Best Western in Moses Lake and flying into Seattle.

Can someone who has done this before give us an idea of what to expect? We've heard of the free shuttle to the amphitheater from Moses Lake and are considering this if it's not too much of a hassle. We'll be renting a car in Seattle so we'll have that as an option as well.

What does everyone that's not camping do about tailgating? Obviously we wont be bringing chairs, coolers etc with us from home.

Any other general tips/advice?

Thanks in advance.

In 2005 I stayed in Moses Lake and I wasn't aware of any shuttles they had. We drove there and back each night, about 40 minutes each way.

Tailgating is allowed in the lots, not sure about grills though. You could always purchase a cooler/chairs from Wal-Mart and then return it before you leave. :lol

As much as I think this is wrong, I have to admit that I've done this with a Plasma television before, shame on me :lol. We "rented" it for a weekend where a bunch of friends got together to play video games and we needed an extra tv. I was like, whats your return policy. They are like on tvs and other electronics, 15 days with receipt even if its open. Just don't get the shit messed up, though it will be tough with tents unless you clean them well. good luck.

Yes getting the tents dirty is my concern. I think I am going to try the co-workers route first, and Walmart as my backup option. I don't want to buy all this gear, find out it's unreturnable, AND have to ship it back to the east coast if I want to keep it (which I don't, because I don't go camping).

Anyone know of a way to rent a boat out there? There is nothing at all on the interwebs...and when we were there in '07, people down on the river kept talking about going to "The Sandbar". You can only get there by boat...but apparently its debauchery central.

Google "Crescent Sandbar Columbia River" or something of the like and holy lord.

People typically have a hard time selling tickets in the lots Friday/Sunday, so I'd try to get rid of those ahead of time. But don't bother showing up Saturday night without a ticket in hand - they are very difficult to come by.

I still need a hotel room and there is an opening at the Sunland Inn in Moses Lake but the place looks like a dump. There's a Comfort Inn in Wenatchee for about the same price but is much nicer. Is the drive to Wenatchee that much worse that I should take the Moses Lake option?

I'm doing this way last minute. Anyone have any recommendations on hotels? Moses Lake seems to be sold out. Before anyone recommends camping, I'm flying up, have no camping gear, and have never been camping, so it's probably best I stick with a hotel even though it'll hurt my wallet.

You should be camping man. Didnt we have this conversation at the Bowl? Sorry but i was peaking. lol

Gimme a call when ya get to the Venue. Ill buy you a beer

Ill be landing at SEA-TAC in 12 hours!

Off to Pikes for some Lunch and Kells Pub for some drinks before getting out to the campground to set up camp before driving into Moses Lake for a party and a hotel room for Thursday night before rolling back to the Gorge for the weekend on Friday morning.

Life is fucking good!

PS. Like every year I'll be on the lookout for smoke so if any locals can hook up a west coast fan thats flying in it would be prime.

If I knew people there and/or I had been camping before I'd do it. Will you primarily be tailgating on the campgrounds?
