I've been on a huge American Baby kick lately. I've got it on my gym mix (fenway), and I'm absolutely loving the ending jam. This has got to be my favorite 'single' since crush. I'm glad they don't over play it, but I hope it doesn't go away (only 5/53 this summer. Nothing after august first). What a great short burst of energy.

and I :rawk that improv line.

Oh the ending of American Baby is fantastic. I've liked the song since day one and unlike most of the other SU songs, I haven't grown tired of it.

I don't mind AB or HFTGL at all. I don't listen to them on purpose but I don't mind them.

That's a great line in a really great version. :upyours

Probably the most pleasant surprise of that whole release is how good the outro on that is, thanks to both Dave and the horns.

I love this song. Someone mentioned Hunger above, listening to BOWA reminded me that I really like the studio version and I dislike the live versions. The live versions have the energy, but it's just so bland. The studio version is a lot more dynamic, the way the electric and Carter fade in, the way Dave sings...

i'm a big fan of AB too... their performance on Letterman was classic and the ending definitely is a fast favorite of mine. loved it at starlake in '05 and it was a treat to hear at fenway too.

The Letterman performance was the first video of the song I saw. I immediately liked it. It's not a favorite of mine or anything but I like it and I won't complain about getting it live.

i like the tune, i just wish dave wouldn't "sing" in the outro, and let Roi do his thing.

American Baby was one of the few things I liked about Stand Up. Dave's vocals on this track are top notch, and the end jam is fantastic. The one version I heard live was dissapointing though. 7-27-05 at Darien. Granted that whole show was pretty dissapointing

I was really never a fan until this year. It wasn't on my list of Stand Up songs I'd enjoy live, but now it's made its way on.

I've have nothing against this song, really. Fenway is a great version. Recent ones weren't bad...kinda wish they didn't entirely give up on it in 2014.

It's one of the songs off Stand Up I think we'd all be okay with getting some play.

YMDT, American Baby, Everybody Wake Up... maybe Stand Up occasionally. I'd be okay with that.

It's a decent song, I def don't mind it and the fact that it's rare live makes it more fun when it comes out. I wouldn't enjoy it at all if it became a rotation song though

I don't remember if it was an officially released clip or a leak but the outro to AB was the first thing I heard off of Stand Up and I was super stoked on the multiple Sax tracks and the awesome drumming. Then the album came out and nothing else on the whole album reached that level of excitement.

Nah i'll pass on this one with this version of the band.

The music director rashawn fucked up the sax part. Couldn't just let Jeff do it alone had to redo it to so he was involved and it just sounds terrible.

Ya they've done it a few times. They did a segue out of LITHOG into it. Was pretty sweet

Yeah, this. Dave also sings it horribly now too. Big fan of the song though. Always loved the line from the title.

One time in 2010, they did Hands of God, and where the jam starts, they made a pretty awesome transition into American Baby Intro instead. http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453056798&tid=110&where=2010. Also at a couple of Caravan shows. That's it, though.

always weird when they just do something like that once...makes you think, what prompted them to do that? did they think it sucked? are they purposely trying to make that show unique? did they just forget about it?

That West Coast run is pretty interesting. They obviously were draining the catalog before the end of Summer. The played a handful of songs not played in a while like If I Had It All, I Did It, ABI, Alligator Pie, Sleep to Dream, Fool to Think, etc.

While not their best songs, that's what I'm looking for at shows these days. I love Crush, #41 and all, but I'll take a song that I don't see often over a song that I like that see every other show. At this point in my DMB-show going career, it's more about seeing something I don't see all that often. This wasn't always the case, but since 2009, it becomes more important because the songs aren't rotating year to year.
