This is regardless of the mix. I'm just talking straight best performance.

Previous winner(s)
Dancing Nancies - August 15, 1995 ("Live at Red Rocks" - 47.57%)

I am almost willing to say that the 12.10.98 version is one of the top five individual tracks they've ever released in general.

The Roi and Carter intro is just stellar, and Tim's electric fits the song great. Awesome version.

I think musically you guys are right, there's not much competition even. But lyrically, it might be the worst. I take this song personally, I'm not ready to make my vote yet.

12.10.98 there is no argument.

I might argue when I make my decision. So much of Say Goodbye is the lyrics. There's really not a positive point to be made about the ones in that version. But like I said, musically it's great.

I think this is one song that so far, there isn't a fantastic version released.

Then what's a fantastic version? I see a few on that list.

I think the Alpine version from '03 has great lyrics, but Carter's drum solo is lacking and Boyd skrees up a storm...so how would I rank that? I'm not quite sure.

The Alpine '03 version has 1 good chorus. The other 2 choruses are a mess, and even the second half of the good one is suspect. The solo is definitely lacking. All that considered, I think that version is definitely below average, but I know it was a surprise to everyone there, and that counts for something to those people, I guess. There are tremendous versions in 1997 (6/22 especially but most are better than any released thus far), Summer 1998 (especially the August versions like Vernon, Raleigh and Burgettstown), a few Fall ones like 10/29) and 1999 (6/3 is my vote for best ever, but there are some other great ones like Atlanta and Hartford). There were some really great ones in 2000 (7/9 and 8/5 are stand out versions).

I still love how raw and barebones the D+T Live at Luther version is. I any SG, but that one just sticks in my head.

I'm not sure why, but the WOTR version really stuck out to me. It's my current favorite, but I'm not sure I would say it's the best.

"and all i can say and wish for is that we throw caution to the wind and make the most of this."

7-5-00 is lyrical perfection. and carter is on fire.

It's close between BOWA and WH5V.1...I'm with Rob that so much of the song the lyrics...I'm going to say...best version to a huge fan; BOWA - best all things considered; wh5- it's the version I would play someone if they asked what the definitive version was. (sound quality being a factor)

edit: for some reason I can't factor in the Luther performance- it doesn't work to compare...it's about perfect though.

The whole show needs a release someday.

As for poll, I'd have to give it to 12/10/98, just a TAD over 7/5/00.

the 12/10/98, 8/27/00 and RR '95 ones are really good. i need to give the 7/5/00 one a few more listens, but Roi's flute solo doesn't sound all that great to me so that brings it down a bit from the other three.

The 7-5-00 has grown on me lately. The lyrics are superb and the mix is fantastic.

Can someone PM me the Warehouse version of Say Goodbye? I have all of the other versions except this one...

EDIT: Nevermind...OiNK prevails.

I think Rob's going to have a stroke if Alpine '03 is ever released. :lol

There isn't a bad one on that list either. :upyours

I might go with the BOWA one just because of how badass opening with that was.

OK. I'm finally placing my vote. The Live Trax v4 version of this rules all. It's easily one of the most passionate performances they've released of any tune, and by far the most passionate SG. The lyrics are hit and miss, I don't think "listered" is a word, but good God he puts every bit of emotion he has into the song, and that counts for a lot.

I like Fonz joining in on the intro in that one too.

8.27.2000 hands down....musically and vocally perfect! It trumps 12.10.98.

I do like the LT4 lyrics of "you go back to your man and i go back to my world if we can" or whatever.

Can you do some YSI links to these versions? They all sound awesome and it'd be great to have all the top versions of one of my favorite songs.
