...just because I have been without solid internet for this whole semester and it now seems to be working pretty decently (for the time being). Here are two versions of two great songs that I have been listening to the most in the past month. The 12.2.98 Typical really doesn't need much of an intro as it is one of the best ever performed. Bela and Tim fill wonderfully throughout, while Roi's flute solo is top notch (I really miss the flute in songs like Typical, #41 and Say Goodbye). What really puts this version over the top for me is Butch's solo that follows Roi's. I love what Butch brings to the table today, but man I'd give good money to hear more of these actual solos today (not those slow, drawn-out things we get in LIOG and Bartender). The 6.17.06 Warehouse is just plain old badass. Roi and Rashawn really do a nice job layer with one another. Butch's Harlem Shuffle interpolation is a nice little touch, and who can argue with the return of Louie Louie? Great flawless segue into and out of the 7/8 Salsa. I'm gonna stop going Brandon on these two versions, but enjoy. Hope to be talking to more of you when I get back to the states in 20 days.

12.2 is a great show that gets overshadowed by the best show ever that followed the next night. Two Step is also stellar from 12.2.

the best show ever that followed the next night.

so what is considered the best show from this tour? i always considered it it to be 12.3 given the setlist and performance, but then 12/8 got released as the first live trax which means that's the one that got the most votes (or so we're to believe)...

The only show I will accept as a challenge to 12.3.98 in the Best Show Ever debate is 12.31.96. 12.3.98 is pretty fucking perfect though. Hands down the best show of the tour IMO.

It's really good...and then Butch just takes it to a new level of sicktasticness.

This has been my only major complaint about Roi in recent years. That flute doesn't come out nearly enough.

I agree with you here as well. These two shows are the only ones I'd consider in contention for that title.

The thing that I like about this Typical so much is that this was the first tour Butch actually started guesting with the band almost consistently on, yet judging by this performance alone, you would think he had already been playing this song for years. For being with a band that was as big as DMB at that time and playing at Madison Square Garden, he didn't show an ounce of apprehensiveness and instead added so much fill to the song and then at the end busted into the baddest jam that, in my opinion, is one of his top, if not the best, solo he has done. I just really enjoy this version a lot -- more so than any other version, and I think even with having Bela and Tim guesting on this, Butch is the reason why this version is so damn good.

That's why I was so pumped by the way Say Goodbye came along this summer. It was the most we were seeing the flute in a long time.

I hadn't listened to an '06 Say Goodbye before Fenway, so I was pumped when 'Roi broke the flute out.

That was probably my favorite flute intro of the summer.

Nah. I was running semi-late and didn't run into anyone around then. Did run into you last Dec. though.

While I love Roi on flute, I think that sax is a better fit for him on Typical. Actually, what I'd like for him to do is use the flute for the little bit he does at the beginning of the song and switch to sax for the jam. Either way, incredible version.

On the topic of 12.8.98, I can remember at the time the show was receiving a lot of the "best ever" praises. From what I remember (in the hype leading up to LiveTrax 1), a lot people were hailing it as the best show of '98. It seems like people changed their minds after it was released. IMO what should've happened is that Last Stop should've been put out on a WH disc and 12.7 or 12.3 released instead.
