i was supposed to see them at alpine on the 03 tour, i believe. tits seats... like corporate or something. but the young lady that invited me had a visitor come in and he go to go instead. so then i talked my buddies into going lawn but it was one of our friends birthdays and he put up the most pathetic bitchfest saying he wanted to go to the bars instead of a concert and he would be so hurt by us going to see pj. i couldnt fucking believe it.

then i almost saw them on the vfc tour... but it didnt work out.

needless to say, i have yet to see them live and it kills me.

What is weird about Pearl Jam is that I have seen them twice and each time I left feeling satisfied, like I did not need to see another PJ show. They just seem to really enjoy putting on a show.

Great point. I have seen them far less then DMB and for some reason after every show you get that feeling. Listening to every show you get that impression also. That they enjoy each one, go all out for each one, and make each one unique.

The also play so many songs you feel as if they played most of what you wanted to hear, even if you did not one or two specific songs you wanted going in to the concert. When it is over it does not matter. After seeing DMB 15 times, that feeling has only happened 3 times, each one of those shows included Bela Fleck.

awesome Angel also right. That I am a patriot is great shit.

The San Fran shows are great to listen to, but that Prague show is pretty amazing. That is the one with the MFC opener and the 5 man songs in a row right. They are always something live, but they just sound crazy overseas. And the sets are fucking special. Torino... playing the whole album in order without a word to the crowd then pulling out Tremor Christ.

this is just awesome fucking news!
Still with Pearl Jam, and their film crew are beginning the arduous task of compiling a whopping 3-DVD set covering their recently completed 2006 World Tour. Members of the film crew stated that they had “to make the decisions on what to include, but we have complete edited video of every single show of the tour at our fingertips, from North America, Europe, Australia, and Hawaii”. Management would not shed any light on the band’s specific touring plans for 2007, but revealed that “they will pop up here and there”. The DVD set will be released in mid-2007.

summer tour? i sure hope so!!!!!! :)

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Pearl Jam's annual holiday single for members of its Ten Club fan organisation will feature a pair of classic rock covers: the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" and Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World."

The Who cover appears in the Adam Sandler/Don Cheadle film "Reign Over Me," which opens March 9 in North American theatres. The Young track was recorded at the Make Poverty History concert in Melbourne, Australia, last November with U2's Bono and the Edge guesting.

According to a post on Pearl Jam's Web site (http://www.pearljam.com), the fan club single will hit mailboxes "sometime in February." Meanwhile, Pearl Jam is rumoured to returning to the road this summer, but no details have yet been announced.

well if you really want to start, this is my suggestion. Get to know Ten and Vs really well, as these are their two best albums imo, and most representative of PJ's "sound." If you want a great live album, get Live on Two Legs, its a good live album to get started with. Then move on to Vitalogy, and if you really like what youve heard through all of those, then you can move on to the rest of their catalogue, which tends to be a little more experimental in terms of sound. Like Riot Act, which although is very different, is just an incredible album.

thank you. I did some research on itunes and thats what others said as well. I bought Ten and really like it. Do they jam out their songs live? I saw in this thread to get the Touring 2000 dvd, is that a good one to start with for watching a show?

They don't jam in the DMB sense, but they do extend some songs. The Boston '06 shows, 7.6.06, 6.29.00, and 9.19.05 are all shows I've been listening to a lot lately.

Camden wasn't that bad. MSG N1 was pretty bad (I clicked for 45 minutes and only saw the "BUY" button twice...both times I didn't get my order in), but N2 was just insane. You literally couldn't get to the Goods page for half an hour. Then you had to deal with actually trying to place an order. I'm glad I at least got one night so I can focus on getting the other as opposed to both.

^So many to choose from. Maybe if you have a bootleg of a show you went you could start her with that. Or there's a 2006 (I think it's an '06 show. Might be earlier) show that is three disks. One disk is a 12 song accostic set that Eddie Sang before the opening act, the the other two disks are that nights show.

*Edit. I think it's the Mansfield 2003 show or the State College show.

Pearl Jam 2008 Bootleg Program
Pearl Jam will expand their bootleg program for the upcoming 2008 tour to include three different options for fans seeking to obtain bootleg recordings of the live shows. High-quality digital downloads and burn-to-order CDs of the entire show will be available following each show date exclusively via the Ten Club, at www.pearljam.com. In addition, mobile bootlegs of three live tracks per show will be released following the show on V CAST Music phones and at www.pearljamconcerts.com through Verizon Wireless.

ĒPearl Jam continues to explore new and innovative ways to get their music to their fans,Ē said Ten Club Manager Tim Bierman. ĒAs we have learned from our younger fans, more and more listeners are accessing their music through their mobile phones.Ē Continued Bierman, ĒSince Verizon Wireless and V CAST are at the forefront of that technology, this collaboration makes perfect sense to us. With our proven track record of delivering high quality bootleg downloads and CDs, we feel this new approach will not only benefit our fans, but provide an exciting opportunity to share Pearl Jamís music in a more interactive setting.Ē

Digital Bootleg Downloads
Full concert digital downloads will be available exclusively at www.pearljam.com. Digital downloads of full Pearl Jam shows will be available for download two weeks after each concert in mp3 and FLAC formats. The price for the digital bootlegs will be $9.99 (mp3) and $14.99 (FLAC) per show.

Powered by Internap (INAP), the digital bootlegs are high-resolution digital files released without DRM (Digital Rights Management) so that fans can burn them to disc, transfer to them to MP3 players, or play them from their hard drives.

Made-to-order Bootleg CDs
In addition to digital bootlegs, Pearl Jam is launching a new physical CD program for this tour. CDs will be manufactured according to customer demand and will ship within three weeks of each show date. CDs will be made-to-order using recycled material. The price for hard copy bootlegs is $16.99/show and will be available exclusively through www.pearljam.com.

Mobile Bootlegs
By request from fans who are increasingly accessing their music via their mobile phones, Pearl Jam will debut mobile bootlegs as part of the 2008 US Tour. Each stop of the tour, Pearl Jam will provide three (3) stand-out tracks per concert mixed in real-time and released via Verizon Wirelessí V CAST Music service or www.pearljamconcerts.com. Following each show, Verizon Wireless will offer fans one (1) full-length track as a free mobile bootlegs download with two (2) additional tracks available for purchase. All three tracks will also be available for purchase as ringtones and ringback tones.

All of Pearl Jamís bootlegs recordings will be professionally mixed in real-time at each show to create the mobile bootlegs. Pearl Jamís recording engineer will mix the recordings on the Verizon Mobile Recording Studio Bus.

Both the mobile and new burn-to-order CD options are an extension of Pearl Jamís official bootleg CD program, which was initially launched on the bandís 2000 world tour in an effort to provide fans with high-quality, affordable bootlegs of their lives shows. Since the programís inception, over 3.5 million bootlegs have been sold.

Pearl Jamís twelve-date 2008 U.S. Tour kicks off June 11th in West Palm Beach and wraps up on June 30th in Boston. For a full list of Pearl Jamís tour dates, please visit www.pearljam.com.

Both shows were awesome. It's great to see them again after 5 yrs. There is a rumor going around at the shows saying that they are heading back into the studio to record a new album follow by a 2 year world tour starting next year. I hope it's true so I can plan on seeing quite a few shows next time around. Who are you, after a 10 yr, was amazing. They were on fire in WPB and Tampa was awesome with Sometimes as an opener. Sorry for the length of the review.

First let me say that I have been a PJ fan since 9th grade when "Ten" was released, but between bad timing, and the lack of shows in the south the WPB/Tampa shows were my first. With that being said, I have been to well over a hundred concerts in general, all over the US. Both of the Florida shows were great, but Tampa was AMAZING!

It was my 30th birthday, and I could not have scripted a better set, or show. When we got to our seats it was no more then 30sec. before the lights dimmed, and the band appeared.

Eddie mentioned before Elderly Woman that he was not sure if they were in Canada, or the US, because of the huge Canadian flag they hang for the hockey games. He then dedicated the song to anyone from Bradenton!!! Thats my home town, where I live, and one of my all time favorite songs!!! Let me say that this was the most personal moment I have ever had at a concert. I was moved to tears, and will never forget the moment. When he said that me and my friend let out a big yell, and we felt like the only people in the room. Thank you Eddie Vedder. You are my hero.

I have never been to a show where there was not one down song to grab a beer or use the can. This was the first, and I have never been more sober, but high in my whole life. Everything is still crystal clear, and I can't stop smiling about the whole experience.

One song after another was played that we loved. The run of Light Years, Down, Wishlist, Given To Fly, Daughter, Even Flow, Present Tense, and Insignificance was just jaw dropping. And then the encore came.

Eddie came out and said that they had a few requests, and proceeded to start the first of my two favorite songs. After "Nothingman",and "Black" I was so blown away that I could hardly even sing to another of my favorites "Porch". Mike was crushing it, and just flipping pick's out to the crowd and I couldn't believe the amazing show I was seeing.

The crowd was amazing, and I have been a part of many great crowds in NYC, The Gorge, Alpine Valley etc... but never for PJ. Eddie was animated, drinking, spitting, smoking, scissor kicking.......just all out rocking. The band was tight as hell, and just melted faces. I have been to many shows in Florida, and this was probably the best crowd I have been apart of here. Eddie mentioned it a few times as well.

Just so many great moments, and it was like I wrote the setlist for the show. For the treat that I was able to receive from the band on my birthday I say Thank You Pearl Jam. The night will be one I tell my kids about someday.

Crazy that they haven't been back to either venue since then. I know they had issues after the last Great Woods run, but it's weird this is their first time back at MSG in 5 years.

good seats from the 10c (sec 1., row AA).

on to the show... wow. wow... wow!

what an amazing show tonight. this band just knows how to do it right. they were full on the throttle tonight. damn.

the crowd was ON tonight as well. too bad they couldn't play past the curfew (they even asked but they were told the town forbids it). still everything they played was just great... they almost didn't need to go past it. i would have loved YL to end the night but there really was no room to complain tonight.

Quick question, thinking about picking up tickets for the Eddie Vedder solo tour when tickets go on sale in a few hours. I realize it's a solo tour, but does he have a band he plays solo shows with? Kind of like a D&F thing, or is it going to just be him?

Ed Vedder is heading out on another solo run which will kick off on June 8 in Albany, NY and end on July 2nd in Honolulu, HI.
The great New Zealand singer-songwriter - Liam Finn - will open these shows.

Ten Club will be hosting a ticket pre-sale for a limited quantity of tickets ... please read on for details.

The combination of small venues, limited ticket quantities, and lots of fans always makes for a challenge in terms of ticket-buying opportunities, but
we've listened to everyone's input and modified our system to better address everyone's needs. Here's how the ticket pre-sale will work for Ed's tour this time around:

- You must be an active, participating member as of April 7th to qualify for the ticket pre-sale.

- The pre-sale will begin immediately and end April 10th at 5pm Pacific Time.

- This pre-sale opportunity is available to active US and Canadian members only. (We apologize to our overseas members.)

- Tickets for the pre-sale can be purchased only at https://www.pearljam.com/max with a Visa or MasterCard.

- Each member is eligible to purchase only ONE PAIR (2 tickets) to ONE confirmed show on the tour. (No single tickets will be sold.)

- Ten Club tickets for the EV solo tour will NOT be seniority based.

- Tickets are being held in unspecified locations throughout the venues.

- Tickets will NOT be mailed out in advance. All tickets will be distributed at will call on the evening of the performance. Valid photo ID is required for pickup.

- Only the Ten Club member who purchased the tickets will be allowed to collect the tickets. No exceptions.

IMPORTANT:

- You will make your show selection , but this DOES NOT guarantee you will have tickets to the show. You are establishing the OPPORTUNITY to buy tickets only. Your credit card will be "authorized" but funds will not be captured unless you are selected. (These funds may not be available to you for a period of time determined by your card issuing bank. To avoid having immediate funds held by your bank, we suggest NOT using a debit card for the ticket purchase, or maximizing your credit limit on a credit card.)
- Once the pre-sale has ended, we will randomly select members to buy the tickets and finalize the ticket purchase.
- A confirmation will be sent out once the selection process has ended, prior to the public on-sale, so you will know if you were successful in securing tickets through the Ten Club ... or not.
- If you are unsuccessful in obtaining tickets through the Ten Club pre-sale opportunity, we will send an informative email with public on-sale information.
- Tickets are non-refundable.
- If you are selected to purchase tickets, you are responsible for payment.
- No exchanges or transfers will be allowed, so make absolutely sure you are able to attend the concert selection.
- Reselling of Ten Club tickets will result in revocation of all future Ten Club ticket benefits.
- All dates are subject to change.
- If you require ADA seating, please call 800-724-8038.

UNCONFIRMED ADDITIONAL DATES - ROLLOVER SHOWS
- As you know, sometimes additional shows are added to the tour that are not confirmed at the time of the on-sale. We call these "rollover shows." We cannot legally sell tickets during a pre-sale for unconfirmed shows, but we will offer you the OPPORTUNITY to RESERVE one pair of tickets to one (1) "rollover" concert. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO YOUR FIRST CHOICE CONCERT.
- Your credit card will not be charged until the "rollover" show is confirmed, which would happen AFTER the public on-sale date, if your order is selected.
- A confirmation will be sent out if you are selected to purchase tickets for a "rollover" show.
- You will receive an email if your attempt at reserving tickets for the "rollover" shows proves unsuccessful.
- No exchanges or transfers will be allowed, so make absolutely sure you are able to attend both your 1st choice concert and any of the "rollover" concerts you select for purchase.

As for touring, the band is doing a "little thing in the States," and is looking to play South America in 2010, McCready said.

Pearl Jam is also planning to tape an appearance on the Austin City Limits television show, producer Terry Lickona told a pbs.org questioner in March.

"We're building up to our big 20th anniversary," McCready said. "We're trying to have a little campaign of building rereleases with new mixes and new outtakes up until that time. We're trying to do a movie with Cameron Crowe with all of our existing footage."

confirmed to play Outside The Lands and will also headline the ACL festival.

how so? i love it, and unless the band starts delving deeper into electronica than they did with You Are i don't think think they really have a formula to depart from. they play everything under the sun. this song has a lot of classic PJ elements but seems a bit more polished which i kind of dig.

I don't know about that; their bread and butter is rock and roll. They push those boundaries hard, but they've maintained a pretty consistent sound throughout their career. I still love them, but they've never been as diverse in their sound as U2, R.E.M. or some others. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not that far from I Am Mine to Given to Fly or Last Exit to Life Wasted.

I think it's okay, but the lyrics are pretty substandard. It's one of the poorer efforts I think Eddie has handed in (presuming these lyrics are by Vedder). It's polished and poppy and there's nothing wrong with that; I love alot of that music, but so far it hasn't struck me as a very good example of that kind of music. I liked the song they premiered on Conan quite a bit though; it was very powerful, tight and danceable in a way that alot of their raveups aren't. This one just isn't doing it for me as much. Additionally, I think Eddie's having alot more trouble these days with the loud rock songs.

trouble in what way?

also, you mentioned him mailing in the lyrics, but these lyrics to speed of sound are great:
Yesterdays, How quick they change,
Lost and long gone now
Itís hard to remember anything
moving at the speed of sound
Moving with the speed of sound

And yet Iím still holdiní tight
to this dream of distant light
In that, somehow I survive,
but this night has been a long one
Waiting on the word that never comes

Can I forgive a lie
Canít forget and live a lie
I could give it one more try

Why deny this, drive inside
just looking for some peace
Every time I get me some
it gets the best of me
Thereís not much left you see

And yet Iím still holdiní tight
to this dream of distant light
In that, somehow I survive,
but this night has been a long one
Waiting on the sun that never comes

A whisper in the dark
Is that you or just my thoughts
Wide awake and reachin' out

Itís gone so quiet now
Could it be held farther Ďround
Moviní faster than the speed of sound

i don't know man, they're at the top of their game.

he's easily the most consistent. i don't think he's necessarily better though. he's never written a lyrically bad song, which is pretty fucking impressive. but at the same time he's never written anything nearly as profound as the dreaming tree or spoon with the exception of MAYBE black. this isn't really a bad thing, as i know he will never let me down and has like 5 times more integrity than 95% of his peers dave included.

lol Immortality, Red Mosquito, Given To Fly and Tremor Christ all make The Dreaming Tree weep like a willow. And believe me I LOVE the dreaming tree and spoon. I'd take Eddie and Thom over Dave lyrically. But Dave really is a melodic genius, and his band makes more interesting music than PJ. It depends on what kind of style you like. Eddie and Thom are warped minds, Dave tells a nice tale.

i'll give you immortality and tremor christ, i forgot about those. i'd say they're on par. but are you smoking crack with red mosquito and given to fly? again not bad songs, but "if i had known then what i know now" is one of the most overused lines in popular music, and given to fly is just a solid song but nothing breathtaking in the lyrical department. i'd actually argue that dave is much more warped than ed as well, ed is just angry and drunk whereas you could make a solid argument that dave isn't above child molestation.

trouble in what way?

also, you mentioned him mailing in the lyrics, but these lyrics to speed of sound are great:
Yesterdays, How quick they change,
Lost and long gone now
Itís hard to remember anything
moving at the speed of sound
Moving with the speed of sound

And yet Iím still holdiní tight
to this dream of distant light
In that, somehow I survive,
but this night has been a long one
Waiting on the word that never comes

Can I forgive a lie
Canít forget and live a lie
I could give it one more try

Why deny this, drive inside
just looking for some peace
Every time I get me some
it gets the best of me
Thereís not much left you see

And yet Iím still holdiní tight
to this dream of distant light
In that, somehow I survive,
but this night has been a long one
Waiting on the sun that never comes

A whisper in the dark
Is that you or just my thoughts
Wide awake and reachin' out

Itís gone so quiet now
Could it be held farther Ďround
Moviní faster than the speed of sound

i don't know man, they're at the top of their game.

I meant trouble vocally, at least with the harder numbers. Eddie can not do what he did ten years ago with his vocals; his screams sound unnecessairily screechy, and he has alot of breath control issues. It's not surprising; he's pushed that voice for twenty years now, in addition to the smokes, and he's gained some talents that he didn't have when he started (those solo shows he did showed that his lower range sounds incredible). But instead of writing new music that can showcase these changes, or Eddie experimenting with how he sings, he still goes for it and it just doesn't sound quite as good anymore. All in all though, that's a relatively minor complaint. They don't sound great, but good overall, and there are nights when he's as good as he's ever been.

Those lyrics look pretty good; I haven't heard Speed Of Sound yet, but I have heard Unthought Known, The End and Got Some in addition to the Fixer. Got Some and The End are great; the latter in particular is one of the best Eddie songs I've heard in a while. But most of the lyrics I've heard are substandard and cliched, and Eddie has always been a consistently good lyricist.

That being said, I loved Got Some; I think the music is awesome, driving and punchy, but this one sounds far too run-of-the-mill to me. Maybe it'll grow on me, there have been plenty that have done so in the past. As for being "top of their game", I'd say they were bar none the best band in the world from 1993 to 2000, and they're still up there, but I'd say that was them at the very top. I have no doubt, however, that they're capable of getting that good again.

no one is going to be able to sing as hard as he was in 1994 into their 40's. i can't fault him for that. and while i prefer his screams and stuff from back then, the higher register shrieking he does now works just as well in a different way IMO. plus, i've been worrying with each passing album the band is going to slow down and stop writing so many punk based rockers and the fact that they don't is nothing but a plus.

as for the bands peak. 1995 was far too shitty of a year full of awful shows that it kind of kills that whole 7 year period you mentioned of being the best. i fail to see with the way the band has been playing and the sets they've been writing 2005 to now how they are not tighter and better than they've been. the distortion is finally turned back up, they're playing fast and tight as hell, and the physical energy is through the roof.

Ah, well when I was mentioning their high point I wasnít referring only to live performances, but also with the albums and songs they were releasing at the time. I mean, from 1994 to 2000, they released Vitalogy, No Code, Yield and Binaural, which I think are just incredible albums. Iíd even throw Vs. and Ten into that run, but I also think a lot of what made them great really started taking hold in 1993-94. I think there is a lot of great stuff to be found on Riot Act and the Self-titled, but IMO they are nowhere near as good as the first run of six albums. If weíre only talking live, Iíd say their best year was 1998, followed very very closely by (in no order), 94, 2000 and 2003.

I mean, I understand what youíre saying about softening in their own age, but I donít think they necessarily have to do that. My problem has less to do with the screaming, although itís really diminished on the older stuff. And more the breath control; heís out of breath on practically every song, and it diminishes the shows just a little bit. Thereís some stuff they do better now than then, but other things they donít do as well. But as I said, when I thought that they werenít doing as well now, that has a lot to do with their recorded output, much more than their live shows (which are still absolutely incredible; Iím trying hard to find philly tickets, to no avail).

oh, i misunderstood you a little bit then.

taking into account studio albums as well things become a little different. while i consider 1995 to be an awful year, the tension and problems they were having then also contributed in a weird way to the greatness of vitalogy and the raw emotion that record had.

i'm surprised you mention '03 as a great year. it certainly wasn't bad by any means and had great sets on paper, but the tempo's were slow, stone and mike pretty much locked away their distortion pedals and the heavy and fast songs sounded like shit. ed's voice was pretty on that year though, except he did not sport the clean cut look well. not to mention riot act is painfully average and boring in just about every way. s/t was a huge rebound for them imo and a great all around record that still holds up and almost every song is fantastic.

ten is so overrated. the re-mix is pretty great and definitely improves the album considerably for me, but up until then it was a horribly dated average album full of songs that were a shell of what they are live. plus everyone thinks the band sucks after vs. so i don't really respect non die hard pearl jam fans opinion.

I think Riot Act is pretty good; the lows are tough but it also has some incredible, incredible songs (I Am Mine, All or None, Can't Keep, etc.). I always saw that album is not being uninspired but being weary; it's a very restrained album, and (along with Vitalogy and Binaural) probably their darkest album. The S/T, admittedly, doesn't do much for me. I enjoy the first three songs, and Parachutes/Unemployable are a pair of great and moving pop songs, but most of it is just pretty mediocre to me. I'm hoping they can get back on the horse with this next one. The Fixer doesn't do much for me, but I did like Got Some and am in love with The End, a new song Eddie's been playing solo.

The problem with self-titled for me has always been the songs. I like the idea of putting out this ravenous, raw rock album, which they admittedly hadn't done in awhile. Unfortunately, after a solid beginning it gets caught in alot of midtempo numbers that IMO are overall pretty boring. Binaural's production has both good and bad points. There are some songs like Grievance where there's no doubt that it is an issue; however, what about songs like Sleight Of Hand or Of The Girl? The production on those songs work perfectly, and it's hard to imagine (ha) them being as successful had it in produced like Yield for example.

Binaural, as much as I love it, has always been annoying to me in a way, because as good as it is, it could have been one of the all time greats. There are some brilliant b-sides on Lost Dogs (Sad and Fatal, for example) that would have made the album, IMO, Pj's best, and there are a few clunkers on the album as it is. I actually made my own tracklisting and sometimes I prefer it to the official one,

Of The Girl
Breakerfall
Sad
Light Years
Rival
Insignificance
Grievance
Nothing As It Seems
Sleight Of Hand
Fatal
Parting Ways

Alas, it wasn't to be. Still a great album though. However, I wonder if PJ is ever going to make that absolutely classic album. Vitalogy I think came very, very close, but I still don't feel like they've made an Automatic for The People, Born to Run, or OK Computer that is just a landmark. Their time may have passed them by on it, which is too bad, cause they've certainly got the talent.
