The return of Sweet Up and Down, I think. I could have sworn this was it...either way. I know some like it and some don't, but I hadn't seen this in a while and forgot how great it was to have it back that night, and eventually see it a few nights later at Allstate Arena.:upyours

maybe one of the top 5 'holy shit' moments in DMB history. I mean, who would think that this song would come back at all, let alone on the D+F tour?

Honestly I was there and 12.17.03 and that was a bigger shock than Halloween on 12.21.02 or on 12.10.05

Gotta agree here. I loved every second of 12.10.05 Halloween but that certainly wasn't a shock.

In fact, I was 10X as shocked four days before when Minarets showed up out of nowhere.

is halloween at MSG really that much of a shock though?
I was at 12/10, and i was half expecting it to happen that night..

They've only played it twice at MSG. Why is it so expected?

I had been played at MSG once before, I don't see how you'd expect it.

SUAD D/F style never held a candle to DMB style for me, personally. I think Trey is overbearing and Dave's vocal deliveries were sloppy.

I dunno, I just had a feeling all show that it was coming. When Christmas Song was played E1, I was absolutely certain it would be next. Also, both times it's been played at MSG, it was played at the last stop of the summer tour. Kind of a priori I guess.

There was just something special about that night. I've seen some great shows but I dunno if I ever had more flat-out fun at a show than I did at 12.10.05. What a blast.

Being at MSG for this was one of the greatest thrills I've experienced at a concert.

My thought process was something like, "Ah, Save Me is closing as expected", "Why are they still on stage? Isn't the encore break now?", "Cool, another song!", "This sounds familiar, I think I know this cover.... wait a minute, OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". :lol

i was quite shocked to say the least at allstate. i was staying away from the boards, so solsbury hill, cripple creek, hey bulldog, suad... all GREAT surprises.

suad d&f >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> suad dmb. in fact i thought it sucked dmb style.

same here.. it definitely took me well into the first verse to realize what was being played.. and once i did, i about body checked everyone in my row.

That all state show was one of the best concerts i've ever been to. I cared the shit out of the people around me when they busted it out to close the main set. Excellent version, excellent concert :upyours

This is a cool version. I really dig the balls-out rockin' that goes on during the song. However, I think I still prefer the earlier DMB versions with the Roi outro. Don't get me wrong, the D+F version is really freakin' awesome, but the DMB version is just a little jazzier. 6/20/00 is still my favorite version of the song.

That pretty much summed it up. "This...sounds familiar. Is this...OH MY GOD!"

holy crap, i'd never seen any live d&f footage. good stuff, that really makes me want to catch a show if they ever tour again, just from that clip. i miss boyd so much on this song, though. i wonder if they'll ever pull it out again, a la JTR...

I cant see how anyone can like D+F better. Carter is the meat of this song! And I find that Dave just is not even close to on during the version posted. It's painful!

this song is great, but it needs carter.

11-29-2006, 01:05 AM
yeah, i prefer the allstate version i saw but this one i love simply because it caught everyone by storm and no one knew what the fuck was going on. i personally like D+F over the DMB version, i like trey on it a lot more than boyd, and as for carter, i don't mind his absence, i think it is fine this way.

I feel lucky to have caught this at San Diego. They had stopped playing it in 2000 by the time they got to the gorge. :( It was out of control with d+f though it felt like a rock concert. I hope it comes back in the next DM solo tour but I'm not holding my breath.

A song that I wish would make a return to DMB sets.

yeah, the appearance of SUAD randomly at the tailend of a D+F show was one of my top 5 concert "holy shit!" moments.
