I now know the definition of torrential. The sky turned purple at least 30 times in the 20 minute drive from the restaurant to home. My wipers couldn't keep up with the speed of the rain, it was ridiculous. When I was at a light, it was hitting my windshield as fast as it usually does during a storm when I'm going 70 down the highway. Wow.

My home is okay, just a lot of clean up. However many home in the town I work (Ocean City) were damaged, all the businesses on main street had 3-4 feet of water in them. the dunes breached on the north end, places I worked at when I was younger, are destroyed... However the pictures of Mantoloking where there was basically a river going across the island are horrible...

ps. According to friends who are in Law Enforcement, Atlantic City has become a warzone... but I kinda expected that once that Jackass Mayor Langford told "His people" not to leave the island...

it was mostly a warning for the barrier islands... alot of them were breached and tons of homes were washed away... it is kinda fortunate they are 2nd homes for a lot of people. i live like 1 mile from the bay and was totally fine, but most of the beaches are gone, I saw my two favorite restaurents under 4 feet of water (at least i know the crabs will be fresh when i go back).

Also the countless pics of sharks that were so obviously photoshoped were great. but my favorite was the one with Godzilla..

I know, my Dad owns an Insurance Company on the island... he was actually getting sick to his stomach when we were watching live footage of what was going on in Ocean City. The sad part is that people are just now calling both him and myself to get stuff repaired from the storm... most people are just running equipment they couldnt afford to replace but salt water is going to mess it up in a year or two anyway... plus who would want to run a forced air system with god knows what lurking in your ductwork...

This is rivaling the infamous week before the Super Bowl in Dallas a few years ago.

My area got 2.5" of ice with a possibility for more tonight. It's all sheeted ice that continues to stay frozen and will until Monday or even Tuesday, when we're expected to break the freezing mark locally.

The south DOES freak out about cold weather occurrences way too much, but this one may be justifiable. If it were snow it'd be a lot easier to work around.

My first summer in Tampa Bay was tough. When I did the 311 Pow Wow a few years back, I was the hottest I ever been. it was 95, but felt like 115. Sticky. Sweaty. I sat sit and not moved in my camping spot in NE Florida. Insane. After the shows we hit the Rainbow River. It felt so good. Man.

:upyours With all those defensive hirings over the passed month or so I think hell did freeze over.

It was a pretty insane scene, I've never seen anything like it, not even during that Storm of the Century (93). Abandoned cars everywhere, people trapped in their cars for 10-22 hours due to the highways not being treated. In our area there was a 22 car pile up the day after it snowed. There was something like 904 accidents recorded in a 5-6 hour period.

The positive note was how together Atlanta came and all the brave people who went out and took snacks and water to all the stranded people. Glad to see there's still humanity in the world today.

I think the thing that everyone is missing is the fact that in your areas its often pretreated. Our governor decided that because we get snow fake outs all the time that he wasnt going to do shit. Monday it was like 60s so the ground got a chance to warm up, then tuesday it was 15 in the am and didnt reach much above 25. So when the snow hit it melted a bit and created ice.

So instead of thinking about us freaking over 2 inches of snow, which we really dont, people just dont know how to drive down here anyways, think of it as freaking over 2 inches of ice.

The problem has been and always will be ice down here. Other than the Blizzard of 93 I've yet to be in a snow storm that didnt shut the city down, not due to volume of snow, but sheer volume of ice due to untreated roads. There are still roads today that are shut down because they cant get to them to treat them.

Seriously. I dont understand WTF they were thinking. They make plenty of cuts during the year to line their pockets, yet when emails are telling you Saturday night/sunday morning that Tuesday is going to be way worse than expected you should spend alittle cash and treat the roads.

Like I just said above, we will see what happens next friday. The temperature doesnt support what happened on tuesday, but its also a week away and pressures can change very easily, even wiping out the idea of snow total.

I used to love snow as a kid, I hate it as an adult because its not just snow anymore.

Yeah it'll be a bit before real beach season sets in around here (I like South Haven and Muskegon/Nunica-type beaches on Lake Michigan). Some friends have tried doing the beach this past week and I think they may have gotten ahead of themselves.

Love South Haven. Spent a night in Harbor Springs (way further north) and I remember walking out onto the dock and being surrounded by an absolute dome of stars. So many underrated harbor towns in Michigan.

Summer is here!

With a few points of humidity factored in, feels like 95 here.

The juice is flowing! (Take that any way you like.)

That's pretty insane. I am so sick of these sub zero days and nasty nasty ice n snow. I generally hate winter and felt like I took it better in stride this year, but we're on the cusp of spring and I'm fucking sick of bracing for what should only be Alaskan weather :downyours

Fuck sakes, it was warmer at the North Pole last week than where I live.

I want it now. Last week we had a day where the high temperature was -2.

We looked online -- it was actually warmer on Mars at that moment than it was in Ohio.

I gotta say, though, we have a Jeep Wrangler as a 3rd car mainly for my wife and teens to share, but I drove that bitch to work today. It's awesome in the snow.

High-paying job made me choose to move back to NY. But I like it better up here regardless. It just seems like the "real world" to me up here, whereas it doesn't down there.

Plus, I don't know if I'd ever choose to live somewhere solely b/c it's cheaper (unless I absloutely had to). A wise man once said "you pay for what you get."

I see your points. I would move bc of the job too, I don't blame you.

Cheaper in the sense of property taxes, home price, vehicles, etc. is what I meant. It's too expensive to live up there (I have a good paying job down here), I would need an additional income (a wife) to make it meet.

Plus, the snow your getting is the reason I stay. Fuck all that noise. I remember helping my dad shovel all the time. I don't miss it. I do miss the fall up there.

I have to press....why do you guys like four seasons? Do you guys enjoy shoveling, driving in mass amounts of snow?

I'm trying to figure out the complaints about snow, but the willingness to live in it.

As for me, I HATE the humidity down here, but they are trade-offs. (My trade off is the beach, hot springs, being near the water, etc) I'm curious to see your guys trade-offs.

It makes you appreciate each season. Warm weather is much better once you've soldiered through winter. I don't have to shovel or drive. I do like how quiet snow can make the loudest areas.

I don't actively hate any parts of the weather here. I get sick of the ice/wind once this time of year rolls around. And I get sick of the heat once Sep hits.

And summer in Chicago... yeah, that's better than any stretch of time in FL, South Carolina, Arizona or wherever. :rawk

I prefer winter. This snow/ice over the last couple weeks has been more than welcome.

Can't stand the summer. I'd rather shovel snow than be constantly sweating and/or sunburned for the ridiculous 4 months of summer we get down here. I'm just not a sun/beach person. I definitely miss living in DC. The summers were humid as hell, but the winters made it worth it. Here in TX, it actually feels like winter for only 2-3 weeks out of each year.

I mean, there are four seasons, you're only focusing on one. Fall and Spring are beautiful, and the summer up here is appreciated because it is special. I also live near the water and beaches, and they are really special in summertime. I don't mind the winter, either. It can become a pain in the ass when there's mass quantities of snow and ice, but that's it. The cycle of four seasons is a pretty special part of nature, IMO.

I found that living in southeastern Virginia was the perfect balance as far as weather was concerned. It wasn't too hot and humid in the Summer nor were the Winters that bad. Of course there are exceptions to that some years. But generally Virginia had very mild and pleasant weather. Now it's a different story living here in central Georgia. Holy hell does it get ridiculously humid here in the Summer. Fucking blows.

As someone who lived in Boston through many summers, I thought I knew what 'awful' mid-summer humidity was.

Then I went to Savannah in August. I'd never experienced anything like that kind of humidity in my entire life. I remember getting out of the taxi that picked me up from the airport, walking maybe 100 feet to the hotel lobby I was staying at, and before I even reached the door I was pouring with sweat.

I don't know if this is true, but the cab driver mentioned to me that the man who invented the first air conditioning system did it in Savannah. I can totally see why.

I agree with this 100%. I like a warm spring, a hot summer, a cool fall, and a cooler winter...BUT I don't like an absurdly-cold and long winter. Like -30 with the wind chill, which we got on several occasions this winter here in New Hampshire.

I think I'd love to live in Virginia, for many of the same reasons BB mentioned above. You get a little bit of everything but rarely anything in extremes. Northern California/Oregon also appeals to me for the same reasons. I don't mind 30's, and infrequent days in the 20's, but man does life suck when you've been sub-10, sub-0, or even sub negatitive-10 for like two, three, four weeks straight.
