Say what you want about this song but anyone that listens to this and doesn't see the simplistic beauty of the song has to be too biased to actually listen to the song.

www.stolenaway.com/public/dm2001-03-21t04-space.mp3 (http://www.stolenaway.com/public/dm2001-03-21t04-space.mp3)

The lyrics are incredible too. I know pre ED songs were sometimes better but for me, these lyrics sit right up there with the best of what he's written.

You cannot quit me so quickly
Is no hope in you for me
No corner you could squeeze me
But Iíve got all the time for you love
The space between
The tears we cry is the laughter that keeps us coming back for more
The space between
The wicked lies we tell to keep us safe from the pain
Will I hold you again
These fickle fuddled words confuse me
Like will it rain today
We waste the hours with talking talking
These twisted games weíre playing
Weíre strange allies
With warring hearts
What a wild eyed beast you be
The space between
The wicked lies we tell that hope to keep us safe from the pain
Look at us spinning out in the madness of a rollercoaster
You know you went off like the devil in the church
In the middle of a crowded room
All we can do my love
Is hope we donít take this ship down
The space between
Where you smile and hide
Thatís where youíll find me if I get to go
The space between
The bullets in our fire fight
Is where Iíll be hiding waiting for you
The rain that falls
Splashed in your heart
Ran like sadness down the window into your room
The space between
Our wicked lies is
The hope to keep safe from pain
Take my hand
Cause weíre walking out of here
Right out of here
Is all we need dear
The space between
Whatís wrong and right
Is where youíll find me hiding
Waiting for you
The space between
Your heart and mind
Is the space weíll fill with time
The space between
The tears we cry is the laughter keeps us coming back for more
The space between
Our wicked lies where we hope to keep safe from pain
The space between

It sounds like it was written to be a duet with Steve Perry.

The "if it weren't on Everyday you'd like it" argument is retarded because there are a couple of songs that most people seem to like off the disc in general (So Right and Fool to Think in particular).

If musical simplicity is your argument against it, then that could apply to far more DMB songs than most would think. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you have other valid reasons for disliking it. I'm just saying that to dislike it simply for it's simplicity would leave you disliking quite of few of their songs. Pre and post Everyday.

I'd hardly call it love; more like I don't mind it nearly as much as this one.

And I couldn't think of a song that needs to come back less than Space. Maybe Angel, that's about it.

The whole album is manufactured like that though. I mean, even FTT's chorus sounds like a freaking fumbled Van Halen riff.

I really love the Space Between. I think it's a really solid song. A bit rough? Sure. But I think it's a sweet song none-the-less.

I loved this song at first, then just heard it way too much on the radio and got burned out. I think the worst part was that I heard Ryan Seacrest play it something like 5-times in a row one day on Star-98.7 in LA.

An acoustic version of this would be very cool to see, though.

I wonder what a full band version of this would song like with dave playing acousic instead of electric. I think playing it on the baritone really cripples it a bit and takes away a considerable amount of its beauty. If all the songs on Everyday had the lyrics of Space Between there'd be less complaining from our ranks I'm sure. I guess there'd be that whole crappy music factor though as well.

I think the song has some potential. In the hands of a better producer it could really have been something. Keep Dave on the acoustic and work the band in more (something akin to Spoon - though this song is no Spoon) it really could have been a nice studio track.

Yeah relax, you are taking it personal for some reason and making it a back and forth thing. I just never never thought the line made sense. Maybe it is because Dave always talks about rain, but it just seemed cliche and like he threw words together.

Either way I think it the worst line in song that is made by really spot on lyrics. Go have fun.

The song is just OK. The only time I have a serious problem with a song is when an OK/Bad song goes into heavy rotation at the expense of something good. So if it's played sparingly, I'd have no complaints if this returned. I don't hate it. If it was in heavy rotation though, I probably would hate it.
