It really wasn't that bad, you can get the TV on Amazon for $1,200 with free shipping and no tax. I was lucky enough to get the place I bought it from to sell it to me for the Amazon price :) I also picked up a 4 year extended warranty that covers bulb replacement (key) for a couple hundred dollars.

They offered 1 year no interest no payment financing, or 1.5 year no interest and monthly payments. If you break it down it's not more than $150 a month, which isn't bad at all.

yea, I have a 55" sony rear projection lcd and a 26" sharp in the bed room. There is nothing better than watching games/movies/tv on the 55 with the 5.1. A whole other experience. I don't know how I ever lived without hdtv and dvr.

my friends just recently got the same tv. i love it. watching hd football on a tv like this is incredible.

one question though. when its not hd, my little 32 incher has much better picture imo. i think the large ones get really pixelated and at times are annoying to watch. is this due to the tv being so big? they have digital cable, i have analog. could the connection just be bad?
id love to tell them how to fix it if possible. or is it more just, you get a big tv for hd, why the fuck are you not watching something filmed in hd? haha.

Crappy non HD pictures are usually due to an analog source. You'll notice on most HD tv's that the non-HD picture can actually look worse than they do on a regular TV. LCD tv's are usually the best for analog and non-hd digital cable compared to plasma's and DLP's.

It can also be the cables you use to get your cable. If you're using a cable box that only connects via coaxial cable and your TV doesn't have a built in HD tuner then it'll look crappy. If you don't use a component or HDMI cable it can also look not as sharp.

So basically it can be a few factors that lead to a crappy non-hd signal. I'll be curious to see how this TV does with my non-hd channels since my LCD TV is great for viewing everything.

I've got a 50' DLP Samsung, got it in April as an engagement gift, HD fucking rocks, we picked up a 27' LCD for the bedroom this week, its sweet as well, I also have a 20' LCD dell I am on right now, gotta love technology... its all so incredible, but after having the 50' for 7 or so months it doesn't seem that large, by any means really. This is scary considering I upgraded from a 13' with a built in VCR I got for my 15th birthday a decade ago. :hi

one of the problems with hdtvs is that the hi res screens show you how bad sdtv really is.

There are a few ways to try and make it better. I always watch mine in the native 4:3 aspect ratio for sd. That way you're not stretching an already poor signal and reducing it further.

Also, run the set up on the cable set top box (if they have an scientific atlanta box you turn it off with the tv on and hold guide and info down at the same time). Then you can select the resolutions you want the box to pass to the tv. Select 1080i, 720p and 480i. Turn the box back on, hit settings twice and select pass through or auto dvi/hdmi upconvert from the picture format menu. This way, you're not upscaling 480i programming to hd levels.

or, ifthat is not an option for you. They can watch sdtv over the regular coax input instead of over component or hdmi. That tends to look better. I'd figure out how to properly configure your stb though.

well, I've used it on my sony and my sharp, and it makes them look much, much better. It's really worth a try.

I'm surprised it's gotten mixed reviews. When it came out it seemed like it was the way to go, but that was probably five or six years back now.

Anyway, I'll tell you it will make your tv look $18 better, so, you're up a $1 :lol
