IMO it's by far the best version. 6.6.06 and 6.14.06 are also solid versions.

the best sounding one, imo, is the RR myspace version.....what date was that?

I love just fucking cranking this tune. :rawk

Probably has the most repeatability, for me personally, of any of the '06 tunes.

I've listened to Star Lake's Kill The King and Deer Creek's Idea of You (debut) more than anything. Those songs will be able to live with DMB in a live setting for years. On the other hand Break Free (without Rashawn), Can't Stop and Sister will definitely not be received well if they continue to play them and push them down our throat for the coming years (WAYG).

Kill the King is Everyday done right.

Dare I say Kill The King is the modern Tripping Billies if it's done correctly?

Nah, it's not that instantly catchy, and the chorus, while a good hook, isn't quite on that level.

But it is pretty damn sweet and certainly belongs on the album, if not as a single.

Well it definitely has the upbeat fun feeling. Actually, it's more like Rapunzel than anything. I take back the Tripping Billies comparison.

We talkin about the same song here?

I don't think it's very Rapunzel like at all. It's not really "fun" like Ants Marching or What Would You Say, it just fucking rocks, hard. The contrast makes it kind of Stone-like in that regard, but there really isn't anything like it in the catalog.

I'm thinking more along the lines of an actual story in the song, not musically.

Well.... yeah. Obviously.

Who knows. I give up trying to figure out what new material this band considers "good" and "not good" because they obviously have a starkly different idea of it than I do.

It'll be back. This is why I have that feeling:

Kill The King made it's debut tonight. The band have been enjoying playing it during rehearsals. It's one of the first tunes they wrote when they got together in the studio this past spring and they've been looking forward to playing it live ever since. "Come On Come On Yeah Yeah", we hope you dig it. Driving overnight to Columbus. We'll see you there tomorrow night.

Idea Of You is their best post 2000 song.

It may be too tough on Dave's voice in a live setting. Could be one reason for not playing it.
