I buy it, the hotel reservations are a usually good indicator. Except Labor Day is the first full weekend in September.

I'm pretty sure Labor Day is the first Monday in September, which would be 9/1/08.

I just think it's too early to be thinking they're booking now, but it's possible. This is even earlier than most rumors start...but it'd be nice to know that something is coming.

Save for last year, the dates are usually announced around March 1st, AND im sure The Gorge is one of the first spots booked by management. If the dates are released on March 1st, that is 4 months to get everything ready, I think will be getting a normal summer tour.

I figured it was the case, but being that everyone that will be attending will be 23, I know it can sometimes be expensive/a pain to rent when under 25. Doubted there were any other options. What about the camping options, I hear the Gorge camping lot has the potential for disaster?

gorge is more of the party scene, if u want a more relaxed camping experience with more space and a better chance to soak in the scenery and weather, stay at vantage or one of the other place (ive stayed at vantage and another site that i cant remember the name of right now, both were fantastic)

If any of you work somewhere that has a car rental account, the corporate account probably has it set up to waive the under 25 fee, and you could use that.

i believe enterprise charges you a flat rate of like $40 for an under 25 driver. most if not all of the others will charge you a daily fee of up to $40 per day.

:upyours Renting from Seattle is the way to go. I planned a group trip in '05 to Wapato and renting was by far the best option. Wapato's basically the same distance from Seattle just a different direction once you hit Ellensburg.

I'm also planning for Gorge '08, which would be my first. Can't wait!

The first time I went we did all the Seattle sites which are just awesome- the EMP expecially

Then 2 summers ago we went to Vancouver for a day and that was really great too

I live in Baltimore so I wouldn't go all that way and not check out some sites, just a thought for some of you who are gonna start planning soon

I've heard some good things about other camp grounds, but I personally like premier camping at the Gorge. It's seperated from the main campers, you get real bathrooms and showers, and a shuttle to and from the venue. The best part is that they let you in from a side entrance and they don't search you. Last year I was able to get my Nikon D40 DSLR and 55-200 zoom lens in with me. My brother put beers in his pockets and didn't have to pay the outrageous Gorge prices.

If you like to party until the sun comes up and be surrounded by tons of people stay in regular camping. Prenier is literally separated by tall wooden walls. You can't see in and you can't go in without a wrist band. I noticed that premier was a little more relaxed. A lot less people.

My brother and I are thinking of making the trip from NY. If we do it, we would probably do the 3 Night Premier Camping. How close is the campground to the actual venue? Is it far enough that we should consider the hotel option being offered through the Warehouse? I know there are alot of people that have been there in the past and I would appreciate any advice you could give me before we decide to book. Thanks.

The campground is at the venue. It's like a 5-10 min walk to the entrance. If you stay in premier they have a shuttle that takes to a side entrance. Like I said in an earlier post, they don't search you at the side entrance. I was able to get my DSLR camera with a zoom lens in and my brother filled his pockets with beer.

If you put best available, you'll get confirmed all 3 nights. If you put reserved, you'll probably get 2/3 (that's what I've got the past two times I've requested Gorge tix). But the nice thing is, every year there always seems to be no problem getting reserved tix to fill the gap off TM if u r short on tickets. And people on here usually are selling (I have a feeling I'll be one of them - I'm requesting four tix for each night, right now I have 3 people going, but I'm betting the third is probably gonna pull out).

Really? Due to the popularity of the venue, I figured you could get rid of any seats in the reserved section. Having the warehouse not assign seat locations, it is a difficult call on whether to try ticketbastard for the shows.

For Labor day Weekend???? I find that doubtful and the current state of the airline industry, prices will likely go up. It's such a travel heavy weekend, but who knows, there may be some deals last minute. I went ahead and bought tix for $400 nonstop from Chicago. It may be a little cheaper if you go with a stop.

Yea this is my thinking as well. Have no clue why people think they are going to get deals closer to the date. 1. The airline industry's supply of flights keeps shrinking and shrinking. 2. Labor Day weekend is going to have high demand. 3. Jet fuel prices are going no where but up from here until labor day. When I first started looking at flights out there from Chicago it was around $330. I waited until ticket requests and what not to book the flight and by then flights were up to $380 so I just got it done before I got screwed out of more dough.

The only chance you have is with a flight on Southwest at the last minute which will likely not be a time you want. They are the only airline that decided to hedge fuel prices back in the day and are raking compared to competitors.

Labor Day weekend though, the sun sets by like the second song of the show. The last time I went to the Gorge, we sat on the lawn for the first couple songs until the sun set, and then moved down to our seats during Dreamgirl :lol

My main problem with the lawn is that the sound isn't great up at the top of it. The view is indeed spectacular though, and the crowd is very well behaved, not like your average lawn. That's probably since you have to care enough about going to see them to drive at least 2 hours from the nearest city to get there.

Anyhow, I don't think you can go wrong with any location up there, I just think the benefit of being on the lawn for the view isn't all that great when the sun sets so early and then it's pitch black behind the stage.

I'm psyched for my third Gorge trip. I previously did RV trips in 02 and 05, so I'm on the 'every three years' cycle. I'm planning to hit the town in Seattle Thursday night before picking up the RV Friday, so let me know if anyone knows of a good band playing out or a good bar to hit near Univ. of Washington or downtown.

The setlists and TR have me really looking forward to the trip. I saw the Camden shows and will be at Hershey this week, so Gorge will be a nice end to the summer. I think the Gorge shows will be #s 132-135 for me and 136-138 for my sister and I pulled 5th row for N1 and N3 and 13th row for N2. Good times ahead...

Cool, if I can talk my husband into it then we'll probably drive down there. He had to miss all the shows I bought tickets to this year, so he owes me one show together. :)

By the way, I've made that Vancouver -> Seattle trip quite a few times recently. Try to avoid the Peach Arch (I-5) border crossing, take the alternate. I sat there for almost 3 hours one day because half the lanes are shut down.

No, it's definitely not 2 hours from Vancouver to the Gorge. Not sure what Google maps is thinking. :lol It's more like ~5 hours driving time (not taking into account border crossing time).

The zip code for the Gorge is 98848. You can use that on mapping sites.

Basically, there are three options. All involve crossing the border (preferably not at Peace Arch, like you said) and going south on I-5. And all involve freeways for the bulk of the trip.
*Option 1: Go south on I-5 until you get to the exit for US-2 (Stevens Pass), which is around Marysville/Snohomish/Everett (north of Seattle). Go east on US-2 towards Wenatchee, then go south from Wenatchee to Quincy and the Gorge.
*Option 2: Go south on I-5 until you get to the exit for I-405, which is near Lynnwood (north of Seattle). Go south on I-405 until you see the exit for I-90. Go east on I-90 towards Issaquah/Spokane (Snoqualmie Pass). Stay on I-90 until you see the exit for the Gorge (exit 143).
*Option 3: Go south on I-5 through Seattle until you get to the exit for I-90. Go east on I-90 towards Bellevue/Issaquah/Spokane (Snoqualmie Pass). Stay on I-90 until you see the exit for the Gorge (exit 143).

Obviously Option 3 is the worst choice, because you have to go through Seattle (depending on what time of day you would do this). Option 2 could also be tricky during rush hour. But Snoqualmie Pass (I-90) is an easier drive than Stevens Pass (US-2). So, those are some things to consider. But it'll be well worth the effort, I'm sure. :upyours

Thanks

Looks like I'm going to the Gorge, but solo. So I might have 1 single for all 3 nights. I'm very curious to see what it's like going to a 3 day concert alone, but I'm thinking beer will be the solution to my worries. Extremely excited for the Gorge. Couple of quick questions:

1) Do they sell beer in the campground? Also do they sell ice or food?

2) Is reentry permitted at all if necessary (probably won't be)?

3) Is there a separate parking lot or do I get to park my car directly next to my camp site?

4) When do they send out the warehouse tickets?

If you're talking about the Gorge campground I can provide the following info from what I've gathered:

1) not sure about beer, but they do have a convenience store onsite which I presume has food/ice.

2) I've heard conflicting things regarding re-entry. My friend went in 2005 and was able to drive out to go swimming in the Columbia, but I also heard they discourage re-entry.

3) You park your car right next to your tent

4) Per the WH website, Ship date for WH tickets is Aug 14th if N1 was included in your order, or Aug 15th if it wasn't.

some ants have put together a website with TONS of info...worth checking out:

No, it's definitely not 2 hours from Vancouver to the Gorge. Not sure what Google maps is thinking. :lol It's more like ~5 hours driving time (not taking into account border crossing time).

The zip code for the Gorge is 98848. You can use that on mapping sites.

I almost screwed up really bad (not that it would matter because my husband nixed the idea anyway) - I searched "Vancouver to The Gorge, Washington" and it said it was 2 hours. Turns out there is another Gorge in WA state. When I searched with the zip code above it was almost 5 hours. Oops. :lol

Only one Gorge, but there is a Vancouver, WA. Just over the border from Portland.

edit: and actually, I have no idea how it came up with 2 hours. Even Vancouver, WA to the Gorge is 4+ hours.

edit edit: Ok..figured it out. You did Vancouver, BC to Gorge, WA. The Gorge is actually in George, WA. When you put in Gorge, WA, Google finds a location called The Gorge but it ain't even close to the actual venue.

or (everyday) --> halloween

I'm not so sure I'm gonna do it now, I really haven't had the time to plan much, and work has me focused solely on that right now.

hey, for those who have stayed at the campground, do they allow pets? my friends are staying there and would like to bring their dog. not that you guys would, but please don't preach about why it shouldn't be done. it's not my decision and i don't care! thanks!

I have a question for those that have been to the Gorge before. Can you see the stage pretty well in sections A and C in the first 10-15 rows? For example, Alpine seating sucks on the side sections in first 10-15 rows, I could only see Dave and the horns this year.

Anyone have any advice for four first timers, staying at the Premier campgrounds?

I've read everything on http://www.toupstown.com/

Just looking for any specific tips, etc that I would need to know while we start to really plan the trip.

I know these posts are annoying...any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Well, it all depends on the seat numbers. Last year I was in A10, kind of in the middle of the row, and I couldn't see the horns. But if you are on the aisle closest to the center, you should probably be able to see everything.

Love the whole work mail guy deal. Deliver it to me at my desk son! Screw anymore trips to that dreaded FedEx facility.

Tickets just arrived. In either A or C every night, but it looks like I lucked out with no seats well on the side :)

Really, really excited.

after about row 10 you're fine. first 10 rows though if you're on the outside seats in sec A, you won't see half of the stage. i was 2 seats from the aisle in sec A row 6 and couldn't see stefan, roi, or carter the entire show.

Hope so because I have seats 9 and 10 from the side in sec A row 28 N1. A little nervous about these.

the issue is scaffolding which is up front on the sides of the stage outside of the boyd/roi areas. if you're that far back you'll be ok and see between it.

Just picked up my tickets:

N1: C32 Seats 62/63
N2: C31 Seats 11/12
N3: C34 Seats 36/37

Sucks that N1 is so far off to the side, wonder how that will be.

Okay Thanks...the closest I am is Row 12...on night 3, I'm far off to the right side, about 6 seats from the side. I guess those are the questionable seats.

Wildhorse allows pets as long as you clean up after them, I dont know about the Gorge campgrounds though probably should be OK because I hear even ppl piss & crap all over that place.

How about seats 9 and 10 in C5? According to the seating chart there are 16 seats in that row...

Went and picked up my tickets today. Think I might finally try and tape one night. Got row 40, last row in front of soundboard, dead center. Seats 27-28. Taped WSP from there a few years ago and it was the best tape I ever made!

even with the wind at the gorge?

I've got some windscreens that I made that knock out all the wind noise, but I did have a couple spots with some phase shifting from the wind in the WSP tape. Nothing too bad though. As slow as I am at converting tapes nowadays, there will be 5 tapes about before I ever start working on mine anyway. Just for my own listening. The mix should be great right there.

the role of drunk blonde that walks on the chairs and tries to step on gear and grab the stand to get by is also still available.

I know the boards don't always get along too well...but I try to be an active member on both here and Ants. A lot of people over on Ants have expressed an interest in trying to organize something at the Gorge for Roi...whether singing part of "Over the Rainbow" during the encore break on N2 or possibly doing some sort of candlelight vigil on one or multiple night.

I hope everyone here will get on board with any ideas.

I'll take part in whatever they want to do. I like the idea of everyone in the crowd wearing sunglasses. The Ants people are concerned about candles being a fire hazard though since it's in that semi-desert and really dry.
