Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park is a stadium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium) located in Charleston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleston%2C_South_Carolina), South Carolina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Carolina). The stadium is named after Charleston's longest serving (and current) mayor, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_P._Riley%2C_Jr.). The stadium replaced College Park (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Park_%28Charleston%29).
Affectionately nicknamed "The Joe" by locals, Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park is primarily used for baseball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball) and is the home field of the Charleston RiverDogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleston_RiverDogs)minor league (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minor_league_baseball)baseball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball) team and the men's baseball team at The Citadel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Citadel_%28Military_College%29), whose campus is located nearby. As such, it has also hosted the last 10 Southern Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Conference) baseball tournaments and will also host the 2007 tournament. It was built in 1997 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997) and seats 6,000 people.
The Citadel holds lifetime playing rights at the ballpark and has its own clubhouse in the stadium. This is because the land that the stadium is built on belongs to the school.

Stage will be set up in the outfield like Fenway and Busch. Sounds like approx 2,000 on the field. Going to try and make the trip up there on the 4th. Pretty small venue, should be fun.

Yikes, I was looking up old shows at the Joe, and it may not be a Fenway-style setup for this show.

I was at that Jack and Ben show in 2003, and it was all GA. It was like any other GA show I've been to, a free for all up near the stage. I plan on getting there plenty early before Old Crow to get a good spot and not moving the rest of the evening.

Yeah, if that's what it's going to look like I'll be doing the same. Cuts out tailgating too in order to avoid the insanity of a piss break. I had a feeling I should've done reserved, but all I could think about was the prospect of getting close.

Were the grandstands GA for that Ben/Jack show? If they're limiting the GA numbers for DMB it might not be as insane.

Anyone know what the parking situation will be around the stadium? I imagine the area is set up for the usual 6k fans for a baseball game and not the concert crowd.

The grandstands were GA also. I've only been to one other show in a baseball stadium, Turner Field in 2001 (granted, a much larger stadium) and I sat in the stands, and it was horrible. The fact that the entire infield in empty between you and the band sucks. I'm more than willing to fight the GA crowd to have good "seats."

Got you. I'm hoping the infield's empty for this one. I'd rather fight 2,000 people than 10,000. Should be a good time either way.

I went and saw Live/Counting Crows at minor league baseball stadium in MD and the GA on the field was very open... They had reserved stands too... That may be different for DMB though... I got GA but I'll just stand in the back...

Dave Matthews Band wants to celebrate Independence Day with you at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, SC on July 4 with special guests Old Crow Medicine Show. General Admission standing tickets are available for the field and reserved seats in the grandstand. All the tickets at the Riley Park box office are currently sold out. Check online at www.etix.com for ticket availability. Don't miss a chance to see America's premier summer tour stop in historic Charleston on America's most important holiday!

Gates Open: 5:30 PM
Show Starts: 7:00 PM
Enter: All ticketed attendees must enter through main ballpark gate facing Fishburne Street.
Everyone entering must have a ticket.
There will not be a fireworks show at Riley Park following the concert.

Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Rules & Regulations
No re-entry.
No outside food or beverage.
No coolers.
No chairs.
No cameras or recording devices.

Parking:
Public parking lots surrounding the ballpark, and operated by Republic Parking, will be open. More details about price and specific locations will be released when it becomes available. All City of Charleston ordinances will be enforced.

I'm going to assume that "recording devices" doesn't apply to taping equipment.

From what I remember there should be plenty of parking within walking distance, especially if you plan to tailgate during the day.

I called the Joe's box office and was told the field setup was determined by the promoters. I'd assume they'll allow fans on the infield to sell more tickets. She wasn't sure how many tickets were GA, but reserved ticket holders won't be allowed on the field, which is good IMO.

I was expecting that on a smaller scale. From the tickets thread I got the impression seating might be like Fenway where just the outfield was GA. I don't have to be up front but I don't want to watch from home plate if I need to piss during a late-set WAYG.

Guess the older I get the less excited I am about being crushed and not getting to piss for 4 hours, which cuts out tailgating in any form. Yes, I suck and am selfish, I know.

I can't imagine any of Fenway was GA. This may be the first ballpark with General Admission.

As far as bathroom and what not, I just prepare myself and my girlfriend and make sure we get our bathroom break right before they come on, and its not a problem getting back to your spot. Just make sure you're whole group doesn't all leave at once.

And unless you are right in the front, I don't think getting crushed will be too much of an issue

:upyours I'm with you. I've been GA at plenty of shows. I just view DMB differently since I focus on the music more than other bands. The main reason I bought GA was the possibility of being near or at the front. I'm also really looking forward to Old Crow. When it's all said and done my crew will probably be up front with you.

And you will have to get there way early if you want up front...crazies on Ants are planning 3am.

damn ants screwing those of us with some semblance of a life! our plan was to stumble up 2 hours (at most) before the gates open. then again I'd probably be the one peeing on my fellow gamecock fan in that scenario. I'm swinging back toward trading for reserves. looks like that's the only way to enjoy the day beforehand.

I mean, the same thing was said for Peidmont last year, I got in maybe 30 minutes before the Allmans came on, and had really nice seats. I don't care about being right up front, but I don't really want to be towards the back either. So I think I'll be happy.
