John Paul Jones Arena
Charlottesville, VA
April 17th & 18th, 2009

Dave Matthews Band returns to John Paul Jones Arena for two concerts, Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Old Crow Medicine Show will open both performances. The band previously performed at the Arena as the Grand Opening Event in September 2006.

Tickets may also be requested through the Warehouse www.warehouse.davematthewsband.com, the official Dave Matthews Band fan association, beginning Monday, December 15, 2008 through Sunday, January 4, 2008. New for the 2009 tour: Warehouse members may request up to four (4) tickets per show. The ticket request period is not first come-first serve, the time at which you place your ticket request does not matter. Warehouse confirmations will be issued by the end of the day on Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Yea, my first and only trip to Charlottesville was in 06 for both shows, so I obviously wanted to check out Miller's and get the full "experience" if you will. We managed to get an outside table and had lunch/drank lots. It was fun, but yea, overwhelmingly packed.

In any event we should all try and meet up somewhere.

Think its a great idea. I would absolutely go VIP if money wasnt an issue. But $250 a night is just a bit out of my price range. Not to mention hotels, and travel expenses.

Auction seats, plus I would think they hold back more seats for family and friends here than any other show so it may be a tough ticket.

When the dates for this Spring Tour were announced, I was disappointed because nothing was close to me, at all. But the more I thought about it, I just had to make it to a show (or in this case, two). When I went to CVille in 06, I really didnt think I'd go back (not because I didnt have a good time, but simply because there are usually so many other shows that are closer to me that I go to no matter what).

In any event, in a way, I'm glad there were no MI, OH, PA, IL shows announced this spring... It gave me a great reason to go back to CVille.

Just looked at it about 7 hours ago... looks fine from the outside. I think the Econolodge is the only low quality place, and for a college student, it looks pretty acceptable except for the fact that it just got robbed this week.

For whoever mentioned staying 15 miles from the arena, that is pretty far. There are a ton of perfectly fine (all different levels) hotels within a 3-5 minute drive of the arena heading up 29 N

"We currently do not have enough rooms at the Cavalier Inn to cover your reservation, however we have secured a reservation for you at the Fairfield Inn Charlottesville, a Marriott property located less than 3 miles from the John Paul Jones Arena."

edit: this is AFTER the confirmations

I got this as well. It's bullshit. The reason I requested the hotel was because of it's location. How can you fucking confirm a hotel request at a specific hotel then realize you don't have enough rooms? It's also bullshit that they send the email out on Friday night and won't be able to respond to me bitching until Monday morning.

I got a room at the Red Roof Inn a week ago. Its pretty close. When I called the lady said they only had handicapped suites available. I asked her if there were going to be rails on the sides of the bed and she just kept laughing ( I do not mean this to be offensive in any way ). She said the only difference is a bigger bathroom and wider walkways. I'm surprised she offered it to me, but I wasn't going to say no.

Yea, I'm not really sure. When I parked, I showed them the parking pass that I bought and printed off from the JPJ website. Don't know exactly how necessary it actually was. So this year, I'm just gonna go without it and see what happens when I get there I guess.

To all of those that tailgated, what was your bathroom situation where you were at? Both nights last year, we could not find any porta-potties in the main JPJ lot.

The first night when it started raining, we moved into the arena's garage, and people were peeing at the bottom of the stairs, and in the outside lot, people were just going outside their cars. It was a mess, and this year I want to tailgate where there are proper facilities, so I don't have to walk my girlfriend a mile to find a bathroom every hour.

I've seen Old Crow before. I enjoyed the show, but never took it any further as far as trying to get into them. May listen to some more of them before these shows.

They are very bluegrass, old-style country.

This is pretty much the best way to describe OCMS. I am excited to see them, I have really enjoyed everything I've heard off their albums.

Not really sure how this translates into an Arena though.

Yeah, I saw them open in Charleston last year, and it was an odd sounding opener. They didn't have any drums or percussion, so I'm assuming they won't again. It will be a very hollow sounding opener, but I'm still excited.

This should be filmed. We need a full two-night stand on DVD/Blu-ray.

I think these will be some emotional shows for the band. Might be hard for them.

I've thought about this as well. You know the whole Charlottesville community will be extremely supportive, but youre right, I can't imagine these shows just being a walk in the park. That town is DMB.

I think they should show that video tribute again between the set and encore. The better question is will we see Butch Taylor on stage?

I think they'll do something as a tribute, not necessarily the same video they showed a few times last year, but something.

What makes you think Butch will show up?

I definitely wouldn't be against Butch making an appearance. But I highly doubt it. This is an album tour... an album that Butch probably knows next to nothing about.

I would guess that there will be a good bit of keys on the album atleast as a layering tool. So, will they just have Tim do fills?

Well, Tim will probably have his own thing he needs to do with the songs live. So who knows really.
