i haven't listened to the DMBlive version yet, but this show might always be my fav D and T - b/c of the existing source and Timmy's playing without any effects/weirdness. Just straight ahead domination of these songs and nasty fills...

love it

Man.... I love this BOWA... I really love the "hey La"-s at the end. Cant describe qwhy I do, maybe its just the ,melody dave does it in. I love it!!

haha I hated the bagby of this show b/c of the woman's annoying fake laugh, but I guess they gave her her own spot on DMBlive haha. EIther way, I Love this recording! Is Ron Lessard of any relation to fonz?

that's what is great about these releases. I'm really not one to listen to the 'ole dsbd's anymore... so these shows give me a fresh perspective on things.

i'll try to correct it. hopefully, they release some of the D&T shows that people talk about in here all the time... the '96 ones.. and '99 D&T... and whatever else. I never really gave those shows a listen unless they were dSBD's heh

you need some feb 97 and march 99. at least grab 2.21.97 & 3.07.99....assuming you already have 1.30.97, 2.17.97, 3.13.99 & 3.14.99.

I picked these up last night. They are incredible! The setlists for 3.13.99 and 3.14.99 are just about perfect.

Now, so I don't distract from the thread topic... I'm continually impressed by how well Dave and Tim played together on these songs at the Prism show when this was only their second time playing together!!! They had perfect chemistry from the start!

there is an old on stage schoeps/sbd matrix that was quite good for this (better than the sbd imho). I remember having two distinctly different copies of the show for years. However, at some later point I d/l'd the matrix and it was mislabeled. Not the same tape I had had. Sounded like a different straight sbd conversion.

Jack, you sure that wasn't 5/27/93?

Jack
04-07-2010, 02:38 PM
wow, talk about a trip down memory lane. Brandon's post made me go over to Phishhook and check my tape list. It appears my memory is still working. Had not logged in since 2006 (and even that surprised me).

My list indicates I have a:

Taper: Unknown
Source: SBD+Schoeps CMC54 cardioids
From: Onstage

copy of 4/22/93 as well as a SBD->DAT->CD-r. The matrix has 11 tracks on d1 and the other has only 10 (but both end with PFWYG).

I do not have a matrix copy of 5/27/93, but my copy is complete and a pure 48khz transfer, which if I recall most weren't, or had some issue with them that mine lacked. I remember being proud of myself when I got that copy.

I think the same guy who did the onstage matrix at the prism did a lot of other shows in July 1992, cause I think I got the same sources for a few shows then too.

Also, speaking of memory lane...I'm in the process of tossing a lot of my CDR collection away.

It's funny, I remember in 1999 giving this kid 99% of all my analog tapes because CDR's were the wave of the future, and that lasted what...a whole 4 years until late '03/early '04 when downloading became so much easier and widespread. But I'm just NOW getting to my CDRs and tossing 'em. I'm going through them all though because a few shows I have the sources are actually better than what's currently being circulated on DT.org and the like. 8/11/95 for example, my copy is very upfront and bright whereas the source floating around is distant and hollow.

Jack
04-07-2010, 05:12 PM
yes, you need to find and spread that.

I have the same dilemma. I know I have some rare stuff and better sources that aren't out there, but I just don't foresee myself ever really finding the time to do anything with them. They are all spread out over two houses and three very distinct different areas (nothing in my house). Stuff was originally packed very neatly back in like '05 or something, but over those 5 years I dug stuff out for people and now it is all a total mess. Finding anything would just be dumb luck. I need to find someone to take it all for postage. That, however, will probably never happen.

Odd that this should come up as I just threw out a ton of cassette tapes over the weekend that my mom wanted out of her garage. I started to go through them, but then just said fuck it and they went in the trash. I did keep all the dats, though.

Jack
04-07-2010, 05:15 PM
It was probably fucking Chardy. :lol

what ever happened to all of his stuff? I remember he swore he had a ton of other stuff that had never been spread and that he was going to give it to SCB or someone when he had a sec. Guessing he has some time on his hands now...

Fan#41
04-11-2010, 09:44 PM
Someone sent him an email a few years back and he said he had a TON of shit, not just DMB, but of a lot of bands that came through VA area and when he had time he'd go through them and give 'em to the guy who emailed him. Of course, I don't remember who that was. But it more than likely never happened anyway, as Chardy probably forgot or couldn't care less really.

Finally got around to listening to this. It sounds like Tim was recorded with a mic off his guitar -- that he wasn't plugged directly in from guitar>>soundboard. Don't know if that's the case, but even so, there's an intimacy about this recording that I really like. And the 12-string touch here and there is also terrific. I listened to this on a road trip, and the girl was with me. She's a casual DMB fan but said this was probably her favorite live recording of all the ones she'd heard. So that tells you something. It still doesn't top Luther, but I would put it No. 2.

Think my favorites are: Granny, Recently, Angel from Montgomery.

These early D&T shows are really magical, yet do seem to get forgotten next to the '96, '97, and '99 tours.

I've been listening to 1-29-1994 a bit this week. First show after Dave lost his sister, and definitely has that raw emotion similar to 8-19-08. Great stuff :upyours

I'd like a soundboard of 11-07-94 someday. The speed corrected AUD version is pretty damn good though.

I remember the first time I heard 11/7/94. I couldn't believe how good it was and how I had never heard anyone talk about it. It sounds closer to that '96 tour to me than an early D&T show like Prism. It's fully developed yet still its own thing.

While we are on the topic of early D&T, what the hell is the deal with the early What Will Become Of Me? I really think it is a different song rather than an early WWBOM, but I can understand why the almanac calls it that. Truly incredible sounding, much more dark.

This actually turned me on to some of the older material way back when - I think I may have actually gotten it from napster or scour.
