The original Scott Brown recording was quite a pull, but this sounds amazing.

I went on the Davidson to Boone run, and this show was the best. Awesome to relive that night. :upyours

this recording sounds crisper than the brown source, but still props to that tape. I feel like this SBD gets better as the show goes on. Like Bartender sounds kind of muddy, but then by blue water...there is like reverb on dave's vocals and the levels seem better.

Great setlist, but after hearing Dave and Tim shows from the Dave and Friends tour forward, it's hard to listen to these '03 shows. Tim is rather...inactive for this little tour. I think we need a '99 Dave and Tim release.

Just saw this on the Alamanac:

This show (minus When the World Ends) was released for download as part of the first series of DMBlive.com releases on December 19, 2008. It was removed shortly thereafter, but it was re-released on September 22, 2009, this time including When the World Ends.

It really took them nine months to fix this? :lol

Truly a stand out from the tour, but in the context of previous tours, I think Tim's sickness (pneumonia I believer) really kept him down a bit. Not in terms of solos but in terms of fills and chord voicing. He seemed to double dave more than he did in the past or has since.

Still a great show and a memorable tour, but for me Irving Plaza is just a stronger show.

I knew this wasn't a classic, but I found myself unable to resist the call of D&T and grabbed it anyway. As far as '03 goes, this is a great show, and I think I had only heard the Stay or Leave from it. Got some great performances on it, but overall I probably won't be returning to it very often.

mjf
01-16-2015, 03:57 PM
I've found that I enjoy 2003 alot more when I listen to a playlist of the best stuff from it. While I didn't enjoy a lot of the performances of a lot of the classic songs from that tour, I really liked the stuff unique to that tour. Busted Stuff, Grey Street on the 6 string, DIDO, Big Eyed Fish, and even the Everyday shit like STDH, FTT, WTWE, etc sounds good.

I actually enjoy the sound on that tour a lot too. It doesn't touch '96 and '97 (Dave on that Lakewood is my favorite), but Dave using the Martin and the tone the two chose are vastly superior to any of the shows since IMO but that's just my preference

Bluewater34
01-16-2015, 05:59 PM
There's something about that tour, and really most of the D&T since then, that just doesn't feel to me like they're having much fun. The performances are mostly still technically good or great, but there is a spark that they had in '96-'99 that is just missing from their shoes since then.

Yep. It had flashes of greatness- such as those really hot Dancing Nancies closers, Crush (that jam on the end of SD bonus disc? Hot damn), alot of those Bartenders, and a few others. But overall it definitely was lacking that spark just like you said.

3/22/03 was my first DM related show, and it'll always be a very special show to me. I only had Luther College, but I remember loving all the songs I didn't know and also being really captivated by Dave's style by stuff like Captain. Interestingly though, I very clearly remember thinking the stuff I knew from Luther wasn't performed as well as Luther- but I still really enjoyed everyting. While not my favorite D&T tour, listening to it brings back a bunch of great memories of when I made the transition from an average fan to a diehard.

The only thing that sucks is that the 3.31.14 Blue Water is better than this version. Also, missing out on the other Busted Stuff songs.

mjf

I like 3.31

Warehouse is a great representation of what was wrong with this tour. Dave decided to randomly use a baritone acoustic for it on that tour, and it just sucked all the life out of every version of that song.

Good show but was never a fan of the mix.

there's real no mix of tracks done. the original multi-track went to shit so they released the non-multis back up recording to add more recent variety to the series. When the World Ends was missing from that alternate version as an oversight, so when they realized it, they pulled it and were able to go to the multi-track and get that track to plug the gap in the board source and they re-released it.

Something similar happened with 3.3.99 where the guitars were recorded onto the same track by accident.
