duuuuuude. no amount of sweet information in this thread can annul the disappointment of no tracklist based on the title of the thread.

that's probably their approach with each WH disc.

Not to be a smartass or anything, but is there really any new information here at all?

Poth Ead
01-26-2009, 02:21 PM
well, since you guys are bitching about it - I guess there really is nothing relevant although I thought the mention of them considering what the fans want is kinda cool. We know what they've said in the past, but I thought some wouldn't mind hearing

celluloid hero
01-26-2009, 02:25 PM
I think it's a good thread. I definitely don't think they have gone for most requested. But here's the thing... How many of you have sent them requests? I haven't. They could use our votes from Best of What's Around voting...

6/22?

it is top 5 Say Goodbye for me, but it's also one of my favorite Bests, Grannys? (Grannies?, I kid), Minarets and THE best Leave Me Praying (IMO, not H). I think it merits DMBlive. But I realize that it's an underdog because a 97 "should have be 85th Bela Fleck influenced thing released." So if they did it, great, no complaint.

6.22.05 Dream Girl (very heavily requested)
12.13.00 Rapunzel (to throw us a bone)
6.25.05 Hunger for the Great Light (they're still trying to make it successful on radio)

6.8.97 Crash (just what we wanted from that show)

even though none of the Warehouse discs are ideal, are any of them that are actually anything worse than pretty good? Even 2 has amazing versions of the Stone, Seek Up & Grey Street.

Hmm...I was at that show, but I don't really remember that performance. I'll have to give it a listen.

If Dream Girl ended up on a disc, I remember the one from 12-9-05 was actually pretty good. The outro was really nice on this one.

But ideally, they won't put it on a disc.

lighten up. it's the only thing we've actually heard from them about it. He didn't say news, he said info. and you can't deny it's info. Despite what anyone says, they have not said they were aiming at most requested songs any particular year. They didn't even say that when they had people vote for volume 2.

It's going to be very easy to see if they are full of shit. I'll call it the Bartender 4/7/02 test. Basically if there are any wacky dates on there like 4/8/95 (even though I'm sure it's a great show), they are full of shit.

The only time they have ever said there was any theme at all was the guests disc when they put the best ever versions of Mother Father and Angel.

I was at this show. All summer I wanted to hear Sugar Will and was really upset when I didn't get it at Deer Creek after it had been played a buncha times in July. Getting it way later at the Gorge was so great, and this particular version of the song is just outstanding. I've listened to it over 30 times. Since 2004 I've always wanted SW to pop up on setlists again, and this is just one of many reasons 2008 was so insane.

I honestly feel that the Warehouse 5/8 discs are going to be obsolete and eliminated really soon (possibly after this year) and they will be replaced with something else. I mean with so many Live Trax and DMBlive shows coming out in the future, I think the Warehouse management will decide to replace our packages with something else.

I would hope they continue with the 5/8 series. They can always find unreleased tracks to put out for WH members. I wouldn't complain if the series became a digital download similar to Live Trax 08, though I could be in the minority. Maybe they'd replace the crappy mouse pads and light up pens with an e-coupon to the dmb store. I'd actually put that to use.

How about next year's Warehouse package include unreleased B-Sides instead of live songs? And not 8, but like 1-2 like PJ and LP do.

well, really, the cost of making and shipping all those membership packages would be a lot more financially smart if they just gave everyone a free dmblive download instead.

or at least started a tiered process. like once you reach year 5 you get something in addition to the standard package. and for 10 years you get something extra.

i think the free DMBlive download is a wonderful idea. except when you consider how many people who download the DMBlive releases are in the WH, you would probably be losing a significant amount of buyers on that particular release. and if you multiply that by 14 bucks, im sure it would be a substantial amount, and there's no way it costs 14 dollars to send out the package. the pen? the deck of cards? the 5 song cds? probably costs them 5 bucks a package in reality.

well its the only album song we don't have a live version of, but i'll stick with my previous answer:

1. A Dream So Real (6.21.08)

3. Kill The King (6.6.06)
4. Sweet Up & Down (any 2000)

As mentioned, it's the only song from an album that hasn't been officially released. This particular performance was unique in that it had an instrumental ending which was almost as long as the song itself. I'd like to see the most possible variety with these Warehouse discs.

I really hope they put some outstanding versions on this. I feel they've gotten away from this the last few years. Not that there is anything wrong with most of the versions we've received so far, but I always viewed the warehouse disc as a chance to get versions of songs that were phenomenal, and that had acquired "legendary" status among fans over the years.

The other key ingredient for me is that they are individual song performances from which maybe the entire show is not worth mixing and putting out, but the particular performance is too good to pass up.

I know there are repeats on here, but I'd like to see the following either on the warehouse discs or as a bonus release to the new album, or something along those lines.

1. 4/7/02 Bartender or 7-25-01 Bartender (I think this is the date), or even a recent Bartender with Danny Barnes.

2. One of the top three or four versions of Good Good Time

3. #41 from 6/19/00 Where he messes up during the last verse, and creates new lines, including "I know this winter has been hard on you", which would be appropriate for this winter we've been having.

4. LIOG with Trey (I think from '01?)

5. One of the better versions of Crazy Easy

6. The Grace Prelude

7. Eh Hee w/The Roots

etc. etc.

I think those September 2000 shows with Bela and the boys are some of the most underrated shows. I know they do get some love around here, but for both the selections themselves, and the actual performances, what great music!

I'd someday like a September 2000 compilation or something.

Another month/tour I think is underrated, and hope to someday hear professionally released material from is the August '98 shows. Especially the ones with Herbie Hancock and friends guesting during Warehouse, Stay, etc.

It's been awhile, and I've lost much of my live dmb over the years, but give me a bit and I'll see if I can pull it up. If somebody beats me to the punch, great.

But yeah, the overall song performance was pretty standard, but since half that verse is completely different, I was always for getting it released. Especially since it was the first show of the tour, and I had indeed had a rough winter, both personally and weather-wise.

The trouble was it was tough to make out all the words, so I figured a soundboard would go a long way to helping with that. It was rumored that half the show was available as an IEM, but after those became contraband, that talk disappeared.

on second thought, WH8v1 might have a slight edge over WH5v1,... imo, the versions of OSW, Raven and JTR were excellent choices. TBOWA is a bit weak and so is What You Are (hate it!), but I listen to this version of Proudest Monkey all the time as well as IBYU. But, my favorite track off this is One Sweet World. It's a perfect performance of the song. I've wanted this 4.20.02 show released for awhile now. 7.26.2004 / Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek / Raleigh, NC

you post about this version a lot, is it special to you personally for any reason? I gave another go tonight, it seems really average at best to me. Some nice lyrics in the beginning, but mumbles through the rest and Boyd comes in at the wrong time and tries to play it off by skreeing nonchalantly, you know the old "I meant to do it."

I'd like to see 'Roi's last Typical (and the only one of '08) release in some form or fashion. Timmy, Ross, and 'Roi all three tore it up.

On a side note, I threw in LT8 and listened to Typical . . . damn I love that version, 'Roi sounds so smooth and then the segue into Warehouse. What a fucking encore.

I know if we get a 1997 song, this isn't on top of peoples lists, but how about:

Leave Me Praying
6.27.1997 / New World Music Theatre / Tinley Park, IL

I remember a story my father told me
Of how bravely the ancestors sailed the sea
In search of a new land where they might be
Very free to decide which way they see

Yes, I would leave that morning, head down
Faced in recalling a town

Unfortunate, the land was occupied
Fathers, mothers, daughters, husbands, and wives
And yet I must say, believe they did
They must recall a town

So it was said to these our new neighbors
You must move on or we will bury you
And so it was said to these our new neighbors
You must move on or we will bury you

There was no fight at all between the arrow and gun
No fight at all between the endless ones, oh
They would march them across the cold winter's road
And the families before would see themselves so old
Yet I'm alone, the woman did leave
Through them, we'll make them mine

And so it was said to these our new neighbors
You must move on or we will bury you
We will bury you
And so it was said to these our new neighbors
You must move on or we will bury you
We will bury you

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the Redwood Forest to the gulf stream waters
This land was made
why do you ?? calling out

[wailing]

so it was home (?)

I was just saying there's a lot of shit we want to hear about right now. Why not throw a bunch of dmblive shows on there too. If they are currently working a new website, album or redo of the main site, I would assume that would cause a hold up on dmblive shows. They probably don't have 9 web guys, and this would probably take priority over getting another show up.

There's really no reason not to get it out on time as it is. They know they are going to have to produce a Warehouse package every year, so they should begin planning it earlier. The only reason is because they were late one year, and have put it off a bit further every year since.

think about how many members there are, which is tens of thousands, how many employees work there, which is not tens of thousands and the fact that they don't have a special Warehouse Package machine that assembles these things at 10,000 an hour like all these food machines on Unwrapped. I'm not really defensive, but I do pay attention to details; and there's a pretty big difference. Does anyone actually think we're getting Bartender 4/7/02 or a DMBlive '97 show anytime soon? Good wishlist, but as we've learned by now, bad prediction.
