I dunno why I don't like it so much. I stayed there in '04, and did not like it at all. Way too big, with too many rules. It's pretty far from Alpine. Costs a lot.

It's most likely that the place I stay at now has been so good for the past few years that I dislike Bong more each year.

It was $52 for 3 nights, divided by 6 people, that is only $9. It is like a 25 min drive, but whatever, it's cool. I think it is very nice, and spacious. I had a blast last year.

Being on the outside edge includes staring down at all the equipment that takes up half of the stage and having to look in to see the band. Sometimes that equipment blocks the view of Boyd, Rashawn, etc. (outer members on the stage).

I don't know about terrible sound from uncovered seats. 99% of the seats are covered at Alpine anyways.

If you are in 201 or 203 it's not that bad unless you are too close. The closer you are the worse it is if you are on the far outsides. The middle is fine. I haven't heard anything about the sound. They are uncovered though if you are on the ends. If it rains you'll get dripped on.

The pavillion is great 95% of the time, but it's not as good if you are too close or back by the sound thing behind the poles.

i happen to have an extra pair for N2 (row ZZ sec 202). they are marked limited view but i'm not sure they'd be too bad looking at the chart. my bud came up with better seats or i'd be using them.

at least it gets you into the pavillion. in the past i've done the limited view and moved to the back where there have been empty seats but a better view... i'm just looking to sell for what i paid - $180 for the pair. shoot me a pm if interested.

A friend said they might have seats in 103D and I just wanted to make sure I could still see Rashawn/Jeff if the seats ended up being on the outside of 103. I bought tickets in Phoenix that I thought were great seats - they ended up being so far to the side that I could only see Dave and Boyd. So, I don't want to run into that.

I've got a question for those who have been to Alpine before:

I'm up in the air about doing Lawn or getting pavilion for night 2. How bad is the lawn? My friend I'm going with is whining about money, but all I hear about lawn is horror stories. I mean, if there are 3-4 of us and we get in the front of the lawn, is it that bad?

Dkrogh
06-06-2009, 01:11 PM
So to answer a couple of the last few questions:

101 and 103 are pretty for viewing angles. If your tickets say limited or obstructed view under the locations area you definitely don't want them. The only thing they are probably good for is if you want to tape and even then it's iffy as the bass stacks are pretty close to the normal stacks. luckily when I was in 103 A (seats 18, 20) the bass stacks were on the ground with 2 normal stacks to tape from.

The lawn is only good if you are at the front and I mean the very front. Anywhere thereafter is hell as the slope will definately kill your feet, ankles, lower back and you will wish you spent the little extra money and got pavilion. Sometimes people in the last couple rows of pavilion if they are desperate enough to get rid of those seats will sell for a little under face just to move them. Reserved is def. worth it at Alpine IMO. The only thing that sucks is climbing that d@mn hill after the show is over.

from a first year Alpiner last year... did lawn both nights.

IMO not worth it. In order to get the dead front you have to sprint up there as soon as the gates open at 5:30. Not fun considering you then have to sit there for up to 3 hours for the band to come on, trying to defend your spot. People are always walking in front of you, loud, obnoxious, and just suck on the lawn. Very crammed too, if you are front row (which we were) people are going to be constantly pushing you forward and also trying to grab the railing.

I am doing pavilion this year.. doing lawn does not ruin the show, but it just makes it that much more of a hassle. And we had a group of 6, so that didn't really help. I'd pay more just so I can hang out in the lots for another 2 hours.

Yea avoid sections 101 and 103 limited view. The view from section 202 is amazing if you can come across any of those. Anything in row Z-TT or so in 201 and 203 are great as well if you are not on the complete outside. The slope in this venue is unlike any other venue I've been to which makes the reserved seats that much better.

And you're in 101/103? Good luck man. We have had those types of tickets twice. First time we were in 103, 4 rows back, on the outside edge. We could see Dave and Boyd. It was TERRIBLE. We ended up moving over into 102 with friends. The 2nd time was even worse - 101 F (I think) on the outside edge, and we could literally NOT see the band at all. Not at all. That time we moved back into 203 with friends. I would encourage you to have a backup plan, in case your tickets are on the outside edge.

I'm really thinking it will be on the same level as SPAC N2, but it will be a different show besides the BW songs. I think maybe you'd replace Halloween with hopefully Last Stop, and then trade TS for something like YNK. I think it will be the same level for excitement, but just different songs that bring it to that level due to the difference in the placement on the tour.

I really feel Last Stop will return at Alpine. They're going to nail it down the week before the show; that'll be the "big return" at Alpine.

Give me a

Stone
Last Stop
Halloween

encore :rawk

Does anyone think they'll top SPAC N2 at Alpine this year?

I'm not getting my hopes up, I'm just going for a good time, but I'm curious as to what others think.

I think there is always a possibility. The band really likes alpine and they always play great shows there. My only hope if alpine is great that they just continue it at jones beach

I actually only paid for the pair for N2, at face value.

Thanks though. :whatever

I've been emailing a guy who I found on craigslist about some N1 sec 103 Row J that I will gladly pass up if you are interested in them. Let me know and I will give you his email address.

if there could be some swapping i think i may be able to free up 103 C toward middle of section if other decent tix could be found.

this would be n1 only btw.

the last stop at alpine would be awesome. the crowd reaction in 2006 probably tops last years halloween for me.

at the time i was completely taken off guard. later on i found out they had been soundchecking it... all the more reason to clear the boards before your shows. i actually expected Halloween, just not after that tease. Spoon last year was probably the most surprising song i've ever seen.

Also a little worried about tix. Still need 2 to N1. Any help appreciated.

that's exactly why i like staying away from the boards and hearing soundcheck at shows i go to. biggest surprises for me were Dreaming Tree at Deer Creek in 06 and The Last Stop at Alpine in 06. and yes, Halloween was kind of "expected" seeing as it debuted 4 days earlier last year.

the Brixton shows, although good, trouble me a little. since alpine falls in such an atypical spot in the tour this year (after a month playing mostly new album/better known hits) do you think the setlists might lack some of the 'creativity' or surprises we've become accustomed to? i realize there are plenty more shows for BOWA, DT, Stone etc to show up too... non-issue?
