Historically, Riverbend has been one of the best places to catch a good setlist of the "non-major" stops.

There was a bit of a bump in the road in '06 and '07 -- but '08 had a fantastic set and did manage to produce the infamous (Everyday) >> Halloween >> Water/Wine.

I don't know what 2009 will bring, but I'll be there to find out.

Just look at the sets and debuts.

I'll Back You Up has been played at 4 full band shows since 2000 and 2 were at Riverbend (2003 & 2004).

Minarets returned in 2003 after 2 year break.

Halloween in 2008.

Typical showed up after an absence at Riverbend in 2004.

Even though the performance wasn't great, check out the 6/24/2003 set (my first show). The setlist is jaw dropping.

The place gets some love, traditionally, from the band year in and year out (minus 2006 and 2007 when the conditions were hot and miserable). The band seems to bust out some good shows for whatever reason.

Riverbend's "song rarity rank" from the almanac:

2008: 29 of 48 (Tour Debut: Halloween / Rare Song: Halloween)
2007: 27 of 35 (Tour Debut: None / Rare Song: Shotgun)
2006: 50 of 51 (Tour Debut: None / Rare Song: None)
2005: 14 of 51 (Tour Debut: None / Rare Song: #34)
2004: 6 of 41 (Tour Debut: I'll Back You Up, Typical Situation, Lover Lay Down / Rare Song: I'll Back You Up)
2003:
N1: 3 of 47 (Tour Debut: Jane, Seek Up, I'll Back You Up / Rare Song: The Last Stop)
N2: 13 of 47 (Tour Debut: WWYS, Minarets, Sleep to Dream / Rare Song: Minarets)

All in all, looking at the sets, it's not a bad place to be for a "non major" DMB stop. If you were a Riverbend regular over the last couple years, you'd have seen quite a bit of cool stuff.

i love Riverbend.

As long as you're in the pavilion, it's not bad for a concert at all. And seeing the river there is pretty cool. Tailgating isn't like some of the other midwest venues but you have fun as long as you aren't stupid.

First show after Saratoga -- likely means no tour debuts at Riverbend, but probably a lot of good stuff that got played in NY will filter on to the 'Bend.

The Warehouse has always done me right. We're in Section 100 Row E again. I'd like to pull 200, but I really can't complain. We're usually toward the aisle.

Hopefully we get a good show. It always seems like we're so up and down with setlists. But really, we have been pretty lucky, except for that gawd awful set in what was it? 2006?

There was a lot of talk about no sax could equal Halloween last year. I wonder how much thought the band put into that before they did it. The transition was pretty simple, it was just Carter, but everyone had to be on board and ready. You can say what you want. It wasn't the best rendition of HW, but if you were there, you'll never forget it.

It's the home venue and our only show, let's hope it kicks some ass!

So does anyone know what time we can start tailgating at Riverdowns?

River Downs has live racing on Tuesdays at 2:00, so the lots will be open well before then to accommodate people who are their to watch the horse races (and I use "horse" in the loosest sense of the word, given the quality of racing here).

I'll make some phone calls on Monday and find out when they're OK with people coming in for DMB-related events. I'm sure once you get past post-time for the races they don't care who else uses their parking lots.

Never had any big issues with tailgating for concerts at River Downs. Their parking lot is free and you can just drive right in and park. Bring solo cups for drinks though, as their "security" usually walks around and will tell you to do so. Other than that I've only been asked to move my cornhole boards since they were blocking empty parking spots.

My Cincinnati '08 is hanging in my office along with my Deer Creek n1 '08. I'm waiting on Vanderbilt to come back from Hobby Lobby, and I've got a spot saved on the wall for Cincinnati '09 as well.

I have Cincy '04 and '07 at home -- but I really don't like either of those posters all that much. I thought '07 was especially bad considering it poured rain right before the show started and the lawn was a muddy mess. Nothing like tempting fate by having a concert poster depicting storms at an outdoor venue. ;)

I must convince myself that last year was an aberration, and they'll be back to just going through the motions at the Cincinnati shows. ;)

Having said that, I can't wait to hear the new material live. Tomorrow is going to be such a long day!
