Venue Information:
PNC Park is a baseball park located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is the fifth home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the city's Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. It opened during the 2001 Major League Baseball season, after the controlled implosion of the Pirates' previous home, Three Rivers Stadium. The ballpark is sponsored by the locally-based PNC Financial Services, which purchased the naming rights in 1998. PNC Park features a natural grass playing surface and seats 38,496 people for baseball, which as of 2008 is the second-smallest capacity of any Major League park.

Funded in conjunction with Heinz Field, the $216 million park stands along the Allegheny River, on the North Shore of Pittsburgh with a view of Downtown Pittsburgh. Plans to build a new stadium for the Pirates originated in 1991, but did not come to fruition for five years. Built in the style of "classic" stadiums, such as Boston's Fenway Park, PNC Park also introduced unique features, such as the use of limestone in the building's facade. The park also features a riverside concourse, steel truss work, an extensive out-of-town scoreboard, and many local eateries. Constructed faster than most modern stadiums, workers built PNC Park in a 24-month span.

Since completion, PNC Park has been hailed as one of the best ballparks in the country. It has the third-cheapest average ticket prices of any MLB stadium and has helped attract business to surrounding establishments, though the Pirates have not had a winning season since they moved to the stadium. PNC Park hosted the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the fifth MLB All-Star Game held in Pittsburgh.

As with its predecessor, PNC Park's culinary service provider is Aramark. The main eating concourse, known as "Tastes of Pittsburgh", features a wide range of options including traditional ballpark foods, hometown specialties, and more exotic fare like sushi. Pittsburgh's hometown specialties include Primanti Brothers sandwiches, whose signature item consists of meat, cheese, hand-cut french fries, tomatoes, and coleslaw between two slices of Italian bread. Other local eateries offered include Mrs. T's Pierogies, Quaker Steak and Lube, and Benkovitz Seafood. Located behind center field seating is Manny's BBQ, which offers various barbecue meals. It is named for former Pirates' catcher Manny Sanguillén, who has been known to sign autographs for fans waiting in line. For the 2008 season, the Pirates created an all-you-can-eat section in the right field corner. Fans seated in the section are allowed "unlimited hotdogs, hamburgers, nachos, salads, popcorn, peanuts, ice cream and soda" for an entire game. In addition to the food offered, fans are free to bring their own food into the stadium, a rarity among the league's ballparks.

I saw Lynard Skynard play here after a game once. The acoustics were horrible. Plus if you aren't in a seat near the field it's impossible to make anything specific out without binocs. Hopefully DMB can make it better.

I saw Smash Mouth play after a game here and they had the stage set up in the middle of the field as well. I think all the SkyBlast concerts are set up through PNC Park and the Pirates and aren't really officiated through the bands themselves. They also didn't play the music through the loud speakers, just through the very small ones they had set up on the stage at field level (I'm not sure if they'll do this for DMB).

yes

Awesome.

Yea, the sound was pretty unbearable in the stands, we were kinda off to side as well. Definitely not going to be doing that for a DMB show.

Matthews Band at PNC Park
Wednesday, January 27, 2010
By Scott Mervis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Dave Matthews Band is moving back Downtown this summer.

Rather than its usual two-night stand in Burgettstown, the powerhouse jam band will headline PNC Park on July 10 with the Zac Brown Band. It's the first time the DMB has played in the city since that rainy July night in 2000 at Three Rivers Stadium.

The DMB opens its summer tour May 28 in Hartford and it will run through mid-September. The band is nominated for two Grammy Awards Sunday night -- Album of the Year and Best Rock Album -- for its latest album, "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King." The Zac Brown Band is nominated for Best New Artist.

An online ticket request period begins Thursday and runs through Feb. 8 at www.warehouse.davematthewsband.com. Tickets go on sale to the general public Feb. 26.

Oh it's incredibly sketchy (East End). Parking is just kinda on the side of the road wherever, and they just have tastings and tours, but you can also buy growlers there too, and on the rare occasion D's has East End growlers. Totally worth it though.

Fatheads is way too damn expensive. Everybody needs to go to Casey's in the South Side on Mondays. It's Midget Mondays. It's the greatest 10 dollars you will ever spend in your entire life. Period. You pay 10 bucks and a midget gets up on the bar and pours everyone at the bar a shot to the face. It's magical.

Nice.

Yeah, the one inside the park is your best bet. Same with the Quaker Steak and Lube. For pre-show bar, I'm feeling Max and Erma's, only because of their tortilla soup and drink specials!

dmb6743
01-29-2010, 08:01 AM
The hidden Primanti's makes the best sandwiches...but they don't serve beer, that's the downside. What're Max and Erma's drink specials? The tortilla soup is incredible. I'll be back in town the week of March 20th...MIDGET SHOTS! Love being a 10 minute drive away from PNC. Giggidy.

ThememanXX
01-29-2010, 08:43 AM
Max and Erma's daily drink specials always vary, but I do know one day it's $2 Sangria, another night it's $2.50 jack and coke, etc. Also, three words: Funnel Cake Fries.

If people are looking for a cheap place, I would recommend a hotel out in Monroeville or somewhere similar. With traffic it's about a 20min drive to the concert.

Well I'm not sure, for Steelers games you can park and tailgate basically anywhere, but I'm not sure how strict they're gonna be for a DMB show. I've never been, but when Kenny Chesney goes to Heinz it's seems like a free-for-all.
