Dave Matthews Band performed their 14th show at the amphitheater in Virginia Beach on Tuesday night. With the show fresh in our minds, we are pleased to announce that we've selected the VA Beach show from 1996 for the 18th volume of the Live Trax series. This concert was the first show in the States after DMB's tour in Europe. Dave notes how the band is still taking in "this thing that's been going on with us", referring to the success achieved with the release of Crash. Highlights of the 96 show include Too Much, followed by never-before-released in the Live Trax series, "Deed Is Done" into So Much To Say. Carter's intro to #36 is also noteworthy. The VA Beach home state show has long been a summer tradition. We hope you enjoy this fresh release from the archives as much as we do.

thought the same thing... if you are referring to it being your first show. though my first show was 11 days away. or you're referring to 6/11/96....

they need to put the 6/3/96 Dave appearance at the AGR shows on as hidden tracks :)

Yeah. This is why I'm not really excited about this at all, plus the fact that I wanted something from 2002 or 2003. I think I've generally hit my peak of interest in getting shows from 1994-1997. And this Deed is Done is nothing to write home about at all.

This show is awesome. They put in an inspired performance of every song. Dave talks more on this show than any other full band show I've heard. It's been a long time since I've listened to it, but I was bummed the encore was cut because I was enjoying it that much. That was listening to a shitty AUD with terrible track mark noises and cuts. Love this pick.

Here are 3 shows that go back a few years that I would love to see released some day.

I've learned my lesson though, I will not preorder this. Preordered LT17 and before the preorder period even ended there was that special for $7 w/FS and I felt like I'd been screwed over. Never again. I will DL this when it gets released and wait for a deal.

They need to do a 3-nighter next year in C'ville. Invite a shitload of guests who have performed with and have had some impact on DMB over the years.

Popper, Trey, Warren, Flecktones, Grieser, Butch, D'Earth, Greg Howard, David Ryan Harris, Neil Young, Kronos Quartet, Eric Krasno, Darius Rucker, Robert Randolph, Sean Kelly, and others.

Record all three nights but also interview each of the guests about their opinions and experiences with DMB over the years.

Pre-order bonus: '95 GD openers.

While we're on the subject, I wish they'd do a special on in store releases at the same price. I could really use a new copy of Red Rocks.

Either way, I will wait until this LT shows up for the same price, though I must say, I'm fairly excited about this one.

They just need someone in their camp to really pursue the idea with enthusiasm and get the band excited about the idea. And to be honest, I think if you first went to those artists and bands like Trey and Popper, etc.. and asked if they'd be interested in it, and give them a few different dates to see if they're all available and then told the band those people were in....they would go for it.

there's no doubt in my mind all those guests would be more amped about it and more willing to work for it than dave and a couple other members of the band.

but, it sounds like something stefan, jeff, and tim would be really jazzed about and maybe they would be able to get dave excited.

Nah, I think if you told Carter and Boyd and Dave that Trey, Popper, the rest of the 'Tones, Krasno, Greg Howard, and others were all on board, they wouldn't be that passive. I still remember how insanely excited Dave was when the Flecktones were all on stage with DMB again for the first time in years on 8/5/06. He was a mad man, flailing his arms about while they were all taking solos. And that was just the Flecktones. Imagine if you got all those other guys including Randolph and Neil Young and some more? I think if it was done right the idea could easily be sold to the band.

I am really enjoying the last couple of picks they've made for this series. Honestly I know people complain about LTs always being the "venue-of-the-moment" release, but how many times have they actually done this? LT2, 6, 9, 13? That's only four out of eighteen releases. Yes, 4 and 10 were bad picks. Yes 13-15 were unfortunately all shows less than a year old. But the majority of these shows have been archival and a few of them were even specific shows that people had been clamoring for release for years (1, 3, 7). We've even gotten some surprising gems that nobody expected (5 and 12 I'm looking at you). Sure I'm still waiting for some specific shows to be released, but I actually think this series has been a success for the most part.

The cut between Two Step and Crash is weird.

is it just that 'smash' segue they used to do around then?

Not really a fan of the song, but it is nice to have I suppose.

Ive always liked it if for not other reason than it being something different

Cry Freedom is a treat and a half.

Yeah, Boyd is pretty terrible on the LT4 version so it is nice to have another Crash era version.

Not many have listened at this point?

Thoughts overall; most definately a solid edition to LiveTrax. There's some nice-to-have performances (e.g. Say Bye, Cry Freedom, Two Step) but I think the encore 3some Nancies > Warehouse > Watchtower is the highlight of this show

Agreed. The encore is the best part. The transition between Nancies and Warehouse is cool.
