Address:
108 Avenue of the Pines
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

Venue Type: Outdoor Amphitheater
Seating Capacity: 25100

Description: In early February 1961, Albany newspaperman Duane La Fleche noted a wire service report about a group hoping to entice New York Philharmonic to make Stowe, Vermont its summer residence. La Fleche proposed that the group stay in New York and perform in Saratoga Springs. Local civic, cultural, and legislative leaders, who had previously considered a Saratoga Arts Center an interesting possibility, began to design the facility. Within a week, they held their first meeting; within a month they were focusing on Saratoga Spa State Park as the site, had won the support of State Conservation Commissioner Harold Wilm, and begun discussions with both the Philharmonic and New York City Ballet. By summer 1963, generous contributions from Rockefeller Brothers Fund and New York State supplemented community support to create Saratoga Performing Arts Center. In June 1964, Governor Rockefeller mounted a bulldozer to break the first yard of ground. More than 410 workdays followed: 300 workers clocked 136,000 hours to complete the 5,100-seat, 10-story amphitheatre (original layout of the venue did not include a festival lawn). On July 9, 1966, NYCB conductor Robert Irving raised his baton, and Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream enchanted the opening night audience.

Really looking forward to these shows. Slowing down after seeing over 100 shows, SPAC is the only venue I really look forward to every year and has become a staple of summer for me (going in late May will be a bit odd, but fun nonetheless). I go more for nostalgic reasons than anything else (first DMB show was at SPAC in '97, and it's basically my "hometown" show, so it's a great excuse to get together with my best friends).

Planning on doing this for my first time ever. Hopefully everything lines up and I won't need to cancel.

Is the Saturday show the most requested of the two shows? I seem to remember a lot of declines for SPAC so was going to make the most requested night my priority show.

Typically Saturday night (night 1 this year) is the most requested, however, Sunday (night 2 this year) is followed by Memorial Day, so your guess is as good as anyone else's. Most people seem to be choosing night 2 for priority. Both shows will most likely sell out and inside seats will be up there amongst the most difficult ticket to get for the tour.

When Alpine went from Sat/Sun to Fri/Sat the Saturday show seemed like it was still the more popular night. Where are you seeing people choosing night 2 for priority?

That would most likely be the case for SPAC as well, if it weren't for the fact that it's Memorial Day weekend and most people will have Monday off as well.

The main DMBc forum has a priority show thread where most people have expressed SPAC N2 being their preference.

OK, pretty much everyone on the WH are doing SPAC N2 as well so I changed my pick to N2. More competition, sorry. :)

Hopefully I can make it this year. Unfortunately, I might be invited to a wedding in Virginia that weekend, so we'll see. I never miss SPAC though :(

havent missed spac since '06. these shows will be #29 & 30 for me. hoping to hear alot of their new tunes and of course some oldies. My buddy and me were only able to find singles on the boards so i'll be more or less going solo this year. Should be a great time with great people regardless. Cant wait!

My first year at SPAC, but after the Gorge and now that I live in Boston, it seemed to best time to do it. Also, my birthday is the 25th, so yeah for me I suppose.

All I know is that Mansfield
can suck it.

You might be able to catch some reserved seats on the boards. I got my buddy a pair for n2 last week on ants. Lawn is available on tm for both nights

Yea, I'll keep my eye out on Ants. Not to be an ass, but SPAC lawn sucks. I always sit reserved when I go there.

I have a single ticket for each night for sale. These are WH tickets so face and fees. I'll be there and can meet at the venue for the exchange.

N1 = Section 20 Row F
N2 = Section 11 Row HH

First time at SPAC, anyone have any advice about parking?

Park in the lot off of rt50 that opens at 4PM, this is where the will call window is at. It looks like it's a VIP only lot, but it isn't there is free concert parking on the right side when you get in.

If you must park in the state park, avoid the lot with the pool in it. It'll be all HS kids getting drunk and making a mess.

There are minimal lights at night in the state park. That is if you park in the state park, after the show you will be walking in complete darkness to find your car once you get out of the venue. Granted there will be tons of people walking with you, it's unlikely anybody will know where a specific pavilion is if you ask them. It's a big park and easy to get lost.

Is there a merch booth outside like at Alpine or do you have to go in the venue?

If you're coming from Broadway/downtown Saratoga on Rt. 50, you'll take a left to get into this lot. Part of it will be VIP (the left side, if you're looking at the venue from Rt. 50) and part of it will not be. Will call is around the left corner of the venue...you'll walk through a path toward the tree pissers. You may see Dave riding his bike.

I'm seeing 60%/70% respectfully on wunderground.com. Very disappointing. Cool and rainy isn't ideal weather for standing outside all day.

i haven't looked at the sets yet for the couple shows this tour, going into SPAC fresh.

been trying my best to avoid the main boards, but did see a couple things on twitter about two songs that haven't been played in a while being played. so my plan is semi ruined, but not completely ruined.

Anyone driving up from NYC/Newark area Saturday that can give me a lift? Car rental prices here are insane. Had no idea they'd be this much. I'll be staying at the Gideon Putnam by the venue and would need to get back to Newark airport by 11am on Monday.
