such a great release, havent really skipped around at all. Love having IOY and Captain and a 2013 Fishtender.

Nancies :segue Warehouse is such a phenemonal way to start off a show...Loved Warehouse performances from last year and this one fits the bill. IOY and Captain are both interesting performances.

Save Me sounds way too fast for my taste and this Gaucho breakdown really soulfully comes together with Rashawn's muted effect and Dave's "gotta do much more..." part.

Also....BT sounds like cheese from a cow's ass throughout this show...

I like Tim being lower in the mix than a lot of releases. At least through Idea of You, you can hear Dave pretty well.

Yup. It was so common for awhile that I started taking it for granted. It was one of those staples though that I never got tired of despite seeing so many damn times.

It was pretty disappointing the first few times I heard Nancies without it...

I don't think Boyd is offensive on this release, at least not in the usual skree way. He's more disappointing than offensive, because he just seems lost in so many songs. If he doesn't re-learn his parts better in time for the acoustic sets this summer, it'll be even more noticeable and more embarrassing.

That being said, this is a great show. Stacked setlist and a solid mix. I don't think any of the performances are the best versions or most unique I've heard by a long shot, but they're all fairly strong.

I'm halfway through this. Probably my favorite post '08 show released so far. Only complaints are I can't stand how low Boyd is, it just sounds really weird that a lead instrument during a solo is lower than the rest. I guess they had to do that to cover up sloppiness? I don't know. Save Me was played a little too fast IMO. Other than that, I've been really enjoying it. Gaucho, Rooftop, and BBN seriously evolved nicely- I love every change that occurred to them. I hope more of the album gets the same opportunity those tunes did. Tim isn't nearly as overbearing as I've seen reported either, he's just right IMO on these.

This is a pretty fantastic Recently. Also enjoyed Fish > Bartender, the opening run, Captain, Rapunzel, and the encore. Boyd sounds God awful on Idea of You unfortunately, as I was looking forward to that, and Dave is pretty rough on Seven. I need to give Say Goodbye another listen.

On the whole, I enjoyed this, and will listen to a good bit of it again.

The performance did it good justice too. I was worried they'd speed it up or rock it out or something (not a tune conducive to that IMO), but it was true to form IMO. One of my all time favorites as well

Threw a couple of songs on the shuffle before the gym. Idea of You is great, so is that Recently. BBN and Rooftop are solid. Gaucho's break down is a little awkward, I think. Mix is alright. Doubt this will get much play from me, though.

On another note, a little annoyed that we're getting both BBN and Rooftop on the new Warehouse disc. Would have love to have gotten Broken Things. It's the only song off of AFTW that has not been released in some form or fashion.

24 bit sounds really nice!

I had to kind of hack the site to order it (won't let you fucking click the radio box for it) but you can edit the SKU for the 16bit and add that to your cart and then get the 24 bits (still at $19.99).

mrpeters
04-15-2014, 06:00 PM
Here's the trick:

http://davematthewsband.shop.musictoday.com/Product.aspx?cp=1_65517&pc=DMDD113

Right click on the radio box for 16-bit FLAC in Firefox or Chrome and click "Inspect Element".

The bottom interface with the HTML code for the site will pop up.

Change the value="DMDD113FL16K" to value="DMDD113FL24K" and then hit "Add To Cart".

You'll see the 24 bit in your cart at $19.99 and be able to purchase/download just fine :)

You're welcome, MusicToday :) Maybe you'll make a few extra bucks now since your site was broken!

This is a solid release. I actually think it is a pretty solid mix. That version of Rooftop is absolutely rockin. I'm down with the breakdown in general but haven't yet listened to this one...

Don't necessarily like how it goes back to that Rashawn part though....(and Rashawn definitely squeal s too much over the outro to Rooftop in general)

Works for me here for example:

The breakdown is real unnecessary because of how it cuts the bridge and Rashawn's solo into two different parts - those two parts are my favorite thing about Rooftop and I love how they flow together. That said, the breakdown does have a couple cool moments.

Crash- 2
BTCS- 2
Everyday- 0
Busted Stuff- 3
Stand up- 0
Big Whiskey- 2
AFTW- 3

I know most of you will say this is a good thing, but boyd sounds distant to me in the mix. I thought it was hard to hear him at times, for better or worse. Nice listen though, I'll go back to this one a bit I think, as far as DMB 3.0 goes at least.

I wish they'd slow it down and have Tim play his BTCS fills. Sure, some of them hit on all cylinders and it sounds great sped up, but Dave has to cram his vocals together just to keep up sometimes.

The same is true for a lot of the older songs. The band is just more loud and aggressive these days, which suits a lot of the BW material, but not so much everything else. Hopefully this whole acoustic/electric format will help fix those issues. IT'll be awesome to hear some songs more stripped down with everyone playing more tastefully, I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm really not of trying to play the devils advocate but I agree with this as well. Haven't listened to this particular version/mix though.

A couple from '12 and '13 that come to mind that I think are great:

2012 (Alpine - 2nd slot)

2013 (WPB -Starts at outro) / Irvine:

This pick is a perfect snapshot of DMB 2013. I would take this tracklist at any show and walk away satisfied.

Nancies>Warehouse opener, Rapunzel set closer, and Ants closing. You can't get much better.

Awesome album spread, with some nice rarities.

Solid production and sound quality overall.

A little too much Tim, not enough Dave.
A little too much Rashawn, not enough Jeff.
Boyd actually sounds pretty good.
Carter and Fonz stellar, as usual.

Perfect release heading into Summer 2014.

Gave this a second listen this week, in the car this time. Good release, liked it better the second time.

Highlights:
Nancies > Warehouse - Boyd sounds just fine and it's great to have a great version of this classic segue with the UTTAD intro from this lineup.
Captain - Song has never sounded better full band than it has with this lineup (save for the excellent version on the LWS of course). This is firmly in the "Timmy makes it better" category.
BEF > Bartender - Same here, this lineup nails this combo and it's just an awesome listen. The country-ish outro with Tim and Carter made me think of the country-ish intro to Ants that they played on 12/7-8/93. Anything that invokes those shows gets a big old :upyours in my book.
Recently - Feels tighter than the '09 versions but I'll exchange looseness for consistency, polish, and energy. Great to have this in regular rotation last year.

Everything else is good (AFTW tunes are solid additions, just wish there were a couple more here) with the exception of Crush. That's the only low light here. Honestly the last few years have not been kind to Crush, this is probably the low point for this song since it's inception. The Tim/sax solos of '08-'09 were just amazing and it's a shame they dropped that for an extended Boyd solo and some canned horn lines :downyours

Definitely missing the spunky "ah ah ah" parts at the end

without those, the song is dead to me

Random Question - Does the digital download have the fade in/out on the tracks that are the beginning/end of the physical discs?

All the descriptions are getting me excited to listen to this. I already have it, but waiting to listen to it on my 3 hour road trip down to The Woodlands for the first show of the tour.

This is still a week and a half away. What's taking them so long. This has been a bad offseason.

Listening to this now, damn Carter and his double bass. It's fucking annoying. He relies on it too much these days.

Indeed. I suggest the use of fold up bluetooth keyboards. You don't get the same, satisfying, *clackclackclackclackBOOM" when you type vehemently on a touchscreen.

Oh man, I met a really nice hippie guy a few months ago when I mixed his band one night. I was smokin a cig on the loading dock and noticed his car covered in DMB stickers and whatnot. Struck up a nice convo with him, he's been to about 5 more shows than I have. I really enjoyed that chat.

Turns out, hes on antsmarching.org. I didnt ask him for his SN because I didnt want to give him mine (or admit that I even have a membership there). It was a pretty cool encounter but I found myself both excited and disappointed to find his affiliation.

To any of you that downloaded this thing in FLAC-24:

Does this mix sound like every single element is turned up to its max amount and blown out? There is no depth or separation with dynamic range on this thing... perhaps my ears were playing tricks on me?

Yeah the DR is 9 according to the DR plugin in Foobar. Not as good as I hoped.

That was a good period for Recently, getting it the night before in the encore was awesome too. I really liked this show live. A lot of people I knew that had been going to shows for a long time felt the same.

So I've been pretty down on post-2008 DMB and haven't listened to a show from that period for quite a while (over a year if I had to guess). This release was on a pile of CDs I was planning to get rid of, but I've been listening to everything in that pile before I got rid of anything.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. This is good Tim-driven DMB if you're in the mood for that sound (which I am sometimes). Boyd actually showed up for this show as well, his Nancies solo is actually pretty good for modern day Boyd, his Crush solo is the only one that really falls apart (damn them for getting rid of the sax/guitar duel at the end of Crush). I liked a lot of this, and loved some of it (in particular the Bartender).

And one of the best parts about this release is what's not on it. You can listen to a good late period DMB show without the songs that have become the crutches of this lineup (Jimi, Two Step, Shake Me, etc.) so it becomes easier to enjoy it. I'm going to keep this one now.

2013 was actually a good year for the band, I forget that sometimes.
