The latest Live Trax series installment is drawn from three August '93 shows at The Muse on Nantucket Island. Around this time, the band was starting to multitrack a handful of their live shows with the hope of using the material to create their first album, Remember Two Things (11/9/93). None of the material on this Live Trax release has been released until now!

The band recorded portions of the three night run at The Muse. However, technical issues prevented the band from capturing all three shows in their entirety. What has been mixed and mastered is representative of a relatively new band bringing its increasingly potent live show to a new brand of listener. Itís easy to imagine the band writing and performing all summer on the island as you listen to spot-on renditions of songs that are now classics.

This compilation of The Muse shows has it all - from the first notes of Satellite to the last notes of the raging Halloween encore. Lie In Our Graves features LeRoiís screaming sax solo; Pay For What You Get takes us back to the songís roots as a Dave and Carter duo. Minarets>Blue Water is a powerful pairing that doesnít exist much of anywhere in its full form. Hearing the segue here in this environment is a real treat.

Live Trax 30 is a perfect companion to the reissue of Remember Two Things and takes the listener to a certain place and sound in DMB history. There couldnít be a more comprehensive picture of what it was to witness the band at this time.

Please note - this item is available for pre-order and will ship on or around June 13, 2014.

Meh, in a situation where the show has significance and there were problems with the recordings I have no issue with it. Can't imagine this will be something that is done all that often.

That being said, there are certainly runs of shows that would make for pretty decent comps.

A long lost Any Noise (from either of the shows we don't know the setlist for: 8/16 or 8/18) would have been amazing......

Not fond of compilation stuff but given the tech probs I guess there's no way around it. Would be easier to grade this release if we knew what the other two full setlists were though.

Some more on the R2T reissue packages:

http://davematthewsband.shop.musictoday.com/Dept.aspx?cp=1_65956

It will get a CD reissue as well:

Before Dave Matthews Band sold over 30 million records worldwide, saw 6 consecutive studio albums debut at No. 1 and attracted millions of fans across 20 years of acclaimed live shows, they were a one-of-a-kind group from Virginia looking to make a name for themselves in a music scene dominated by loud guitars and louder angst. Remember Two Things, the band’s first official release on their own Bama Rags label, remains an important calling card for fans everywhere — and it’s being reissued this year, including two bonus tracks and a vinyl release for the first time ever!

This new CD reissue features the original album expanded with two previously unreleased bonus tracks: early studio versions of “Pay For What You Get” and “Typical Situation,” newly mastered by original album engineer David Glasser. A 2LP 180-gram deluxe audiophile release, cut from new lacquers, features the original album packaged in an individually numbered gatefold jacket and a new eight-page booklet with full lyrics and rare, unseen photos of the band. A download card is included that features the full album and both bonus tracks.

Remember Two Things, a bona-fide word-of-mouth sensation which earned the band a platinum record in 2002, remains the first and best introduction to the DMB sound. That sound would soon take the world by storm with the release of their major-label debut Under The Table And Dreaming in 1994, but for the band’s most loyal fans, Remember Two Things is truly where the band’s story begins.

Why not? I like the idea. Especially if it's themed. Like a D&T compilation or something like this here. It's a fantastic idea on their part and a great turn-around from some of the recent era shows being touted by this series.

What terrific news about Two Things and early studio cuts. Never imagined they'd ever put that one on wax.

And yet, only DMB management would do this twenty ... one ... years after the fact.

But LT30 ('93!) and all things R2T reissue are splendid.

I asked for them. We'll see what happens, but I'm not expecting to get them. For shows that were played before they had an archivist, they have setlists for ones that they recorded (or have a recording of). When I've asked for old setlists in the past, if they have a recording, they have them, if they don't, they don't. I think this this would fall into the latter.

Don't really like the idea of needing to judge something based on what you're not getting, rather than what you are getting, but to each his own.

I don't think that it's a big deal or anything that becomes a trend. I think it just fits the R2T re-release. The write-up even states that these shows were being recorded as a part of the goal of getting versions of songs to put on R2T, but that technical issues caused them to miss the entire show. So it's like a look at a trial run for them to come up with tracks for the album. Kind of cool when you put it all together.

NOTES:
----------
This is a really good recording of a show that was a source for the Remember Two Things album.

The first 2:45 of Ants Marching sounds muffled. I am not sure what would cause that, but the quality improves.

Lie In Our Graves has an unusal drum solo intro.

Boyd says "We're gonna be back down here tomorrow". It sounds like he is talking about a 08/18 show also at the Muse, but no setlist archives list this. Boyd also mentions the 08/19 show at the Wetlands in NYC.

These rare older shows have been collected and converted through a collaborative effort to get them into circulation. Sometimes these shows do not have the best sound quality (and maybe that's why they aren't circulated much to begin with), but people should have access to them.

Haven't had much discussion about that all.

The issue with later '94s is that they got rid of the set break, but kept using 60m DATs that they would have to switch out. Those drop outs that you get mid-song on a lot of our DSBDs are because the original stopped taping, so the patches have gaps even if they were running 90m. If they ran out of tape between songs or saw it was low and did a manual switch between songs, no biggie. But a recording that we have that has a dropout right at the end of where 60m would be mid-song, they themselves don't even have a clean, full copy and wouldn't release it. There's a bit of talk about this during that period on the Minarets list about how they all wanted to gather funds and buy Bagby a bunch of 90m DATs. I don't know if he went to "60m DAT Costco" early in the year and had a ton they wanted to go through or what.

NOTES:
----------
This is a really good recording of a show that was a source for the Remember Two Things album.

They could do something similar to what they did here then, a mix of more than one show. Could be 9/27 and 9/28 since they're both marked as UTTAD release parties (though they've already released a handful of songs from 9/27 on the Warehouse discs)

Looking forward to some '93 tracks getting out there, but will be a little strange to listen to with the plethora of post-2008 DMB material that is out there these days.

I think I am more excited for the R2T reissue with bonus tracks.

Lemme see if I can find it on an old HD :up yours

edit: Found it pretty much where I thought it'd be. Shoot me a PM if interested. Also did a Last Stop + Reprise too. The Seek Up track worked much better because the song + reprise definitely sounds like it was recorded as 1 track and the end was just put after Christmas Song and fades were added where needed.

Rob, do you know if they multi-tracked any '94 shows? If they do a similar thing with an UTTAD reissue, it'd be nice to get a corresponding '94 LT (I'm looking at you, 9/28/94). I know we have some '94 tunes on WH discs.

show was pro videotaped for the archives. Mics were set up around the
place to get a good sound. Maybe that's why all the old tunes. Seek Up,
Best.Best can be spotted by Dave turning around to Carter as they both
furiously bounce up and down as Carter counts it off. The untitled jam.
I've heard both 34 and 36. It is neither. Although I've never heard 35,
the guys I was with had and said it was not that. One dude said that it's
been played at soundchecks, but never w/ vocals. As far as I know, this
is the first time they played it. It was short, so they might have just
been testing it out. It was a slow tune, Boyd soloed, Dave sang
incoherently. Dancing Nancies has been revamped! Long live Dancing
Nancies! I was getting tired of the tune until tonite. Can't be
descvribed. Jimi Thing--- one of my favorites, great as always. Dave's
solo incorporated notes, not only chords! Long live Dave! Rest of set

Like I said, I'm pumped for this regardless. But based on what you're looking for, there are 5 songs on here that aren't on LT20, and 4 songs that had Warren on LT20 are on here without him. So that's at least 9 "differentiating factors."

cryfreedom09

They can release anything from '93, '95, summer '97, D&T '96/'97/'99, and Fall '98 and I'll be excited/purchase it.

Wanted to get other people's thoughts on this. Don't get me wrong this is a very cool release. But I thought LT was easy more exciting. This is pretty much the exact same set list as LT 20 minus Warren and was from the 3 nights before LT 20. Seems like a very redunadant release. What say others?

I think this release has more of a historical significance than most other releases. The performances may not stand out among some of the other greats from '93 but it makes perfect sense to release these tracks since a) we don't have any recordings of them what-so-ever and b) they coincide with the vinyl release of tracks selected for their first ever official release. It just makes sense. Who knows, it may be a one-and-done listen but I still think it's extremely cool to have this released.

And as for mentions of Peter after he left, one of the June shows, maybe 6/26 ( I haven't listened to it in quite some time), someone in the crowd yells for Peter and Dave says something weird like "we still love 'em, i think". I know he was mentioned a few other times but that one always stuck out for me.

Got the full sets from DMB. Here are the songs that were played that weekend that are not on the release. Full sets will be posted later. No Any Noise/Say Goodbye, no wacky songs. Makes sense, seems this was intentionally recorded for release, so they stuck with songs that they were comfortable with a thought there'd be a chance at making the album.

I'm on the fence about this release...while it's definitely cool to have for what it is in terms of DMB history, the completist in me doesn't want a show that was edited/pasted together. I haven't really been into the Trax stuff for a while so maybe I'll just continue that trend.
