Venue Type: Outdoor Amphitheater
Seating Capacity: 25100

Description: In early February 1961, Albany newspaperman Duane La Fleche noted a wire service report about a group hoping to entice New York Philharmonic to make Stowe, Vermont its summer residence. La Fleche proposed that the group stay in New York and perform in Saratoga Springs. Local civic, cultural, and legislative leaders, who had previously considered a Saratoga Arts Center an interesting possibility, began to design the facility. Within a week, they held their first meeting; within a month they were focusing on Saratoga Spa State Park as the site, had won the support of State Conservation Commissioner Harold Wilm, and begun discussions with both the Philharmonic and New York City Ballet. By summer 1963, generous contributions from Rockefeller Brothers Fund and New York State supplemented community support to create Saratoga Performing Arts Center. In June 1964, Governor Rockefeller mounted a bulldozer to break the first yard of ground. More than 410 workdays followed: 300 workers clocked 136,000 hours to complete the 5,100-seat, 10-story amphitheatre (original layout of the venue did not include a festival lawn). On July 9, 1966, NYCB conductor Robert Irving raised his baton, and Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream enchanted the opening night audience.

I'll be at N1. Originally had N2 but got 10 tickets to USA v. Turkey soccer game and doing N2 would be pushing it. Seeing some friends I haven't seen in a while but luckily I was able to trade for N1. Really really looking forward to it

So cliche.

I was in that same situation last year. SPAC N2 2013 was my 40th show. Then PNC was my 41st show, in which they played #41 at as well.

My first trip to SPAC in a decade. First time was n2 in 2004, which was a bit disappointing mainly because I had been to three other shows leading up to that (Burgettstown, Toronto) and wound up getting extremely repetitive sets in Toronto and SPAC n2. I was kicking myself for missing n1 which was very different and had some songs I'd never heard live at the time.

Going to both nights this time. Excited. There's been unique and special stuff at this venue the past couple years, so I'm kinda hoping the same happens this year, with it being the first two-nighter of the tour. Plus, no curfew, right?

7.2.04 is one of my favorite shows that I ever attended. I wish they would release this one day.

I'd love to be able to leave work at noon on friday and drive up for the show. I've got a wedding on Saturday at 1pm (my cousin's, can't skip it!), which makes for a pain in the ass. I think I'll plan a trip to SPAC next tour, if possible. I really should've gotten there at least once in the last decade, being only 3 hours away.
