I need advice on which shows to get first. Can we rank them out? Thanks

I can't help a lot, but I bought 4/7/95 and 3/3/99 yesterday, and they both sound great and are stellar shows.

3/26/94 is next.

4.7.95
2.25.95
3.3.99
4.26.94
5.10.95
10.24.96
7.20.95

Are all shows I enjoy. I also like the 3.25.95 show regardless of the fact that it is an aud.

12/21/92
4/22/93
4/26/94
3/3/99
7/20/95
4/7/95
3/26/94
10/24/02
6/13/93
1/27/93

That's my top 10. As for everything else, some didn't even really need a release but there really are no clunkers in this series even with toss-aways like 9/9/96, pretty much all the selections have been listenable shows which, imo, can't be said for the Live Trax series.

Tell me about 4/26/94. You've both mentioned it, but when I look at it nothing particularly jumps out at me. Why is it noteworthy?

It has a real raw feel to it, due mostly to the fact that Carter wasn't picked up in the feed that well so he sounds a touch distant and off and it causes this release to almost have an audience recording feel to it. At first it's a bit off-putting but 2 songs in and you'll forget all about it. The crowd is really present in the mix. It's just a really fun show. Also parts of this show were professionally filmed in black and white. I think it might be the Road To Big Whiskey Documentary where there's a black and white interview with Dave, that was done at this show.

:upyours Glancing at my playlist, you pretty much just listed the ones I listen to the most almost in order

Only thing I'd add to it is the 6/13/93 Memphis D&T show. Really great show, right up there with 4/22 for me. It is a great example of the potential of DMBLive- a previously unknown (including setlist) show that captures a classic time

:upyours No doubt, that (and Prism Coffeehouse) are both great. I haven't listened to it much since it initially came out, I just tend to gravitate to 96 thru 99 for D&T. Should give that one another listen soon.

Definitely worth checking out. Great show and sound. As you know, '94 was a pretty universally solid year.

Same here, I usually only listen to the '93/'94 shows a couple times a year and always enjoy em. Had the '94 show after Anne's death on a few days ago

Great thread. I've lost all excitement for the new album, have only been to 1 show in the past two years, etc etc... but I'll never get tired of listening to 90's DMB/D&T it seems. That has always been the one constant through this band's rollercoaster rides

There's something about those early D&T shows that just doesn't click for me. I don't know what it is, but they feel like they're lacking something.

Yeah, I've got that and 3/3/99 from DMBLive. Haven't picked up any others yet. I haven't listened to 4/7/95 all the way through yet, but I listened to a few tracks, and it's definitely a fantastic show.

Truth be told, I have yet to download a single DMBLive release. I have a lot of Live Trax releases and I own the auds to a few of the DMBLive's as well. I decided to now make a change and start purchasing them. Maybe not all, but at least the top 10 for now.

My favorites:
4/7/95
3/3/99 (D&T)
3/26/94
10/24/02 (DM)
10/24/96
11/26/94
1/27/93

I'd say I listen to the two 94s and the 96 the most. I know 2/25/95 is well regarded but I prefer Roseland the night before and we have a sbd.

I have a random question about these. What's up with the cover art? It downloads with those cassette tape covers now, but there are those nicer looking ones with the black backgrounds and sharper font. It seems like the latter are more prevalent, but are those official, or were they at some point and it got changed? Just curious.

Mersh
10-28-2014, 05:02 PM
They changed to the DAT art with the most recent release and then changed the artwork for all of the previous releases as well.

I usually just throw a live picture that was contemporary to the tour (or from the actual show) or a ticketstub/handbill/etc from the show instead of using the coverart. I liked the old style more though

I think I am going to use the original artwork for the older shows I download and the newer artwork for future releases. Just like the Live Trax series, I use the original color artwork for volumes 1-9.

This thread reminded me that I had the D+T 06/13/93 show downloaded and ready for listening. Spectacular. A couple of these have slipped through the cracks for me, 06/13 being one of them in addition to 04/10/93

Off the top of my head, my 5 favorites are:

04/07/95
12/21/92
04/26/94
10/24/02
01/27/93

The Prism show is a relaxing show. The '92 one that was released last June is great. 03/03/99 is a must listen. 07/20/95 sounds fantastic and has some enjoyable Davespeak.

I remember 01/09/04 being really bad.

mjf
10-28-2014, 09:02 PM
1/9/04 was definitely a waste. When they dumped all those shows at once though including D&T and DM, holy fuck I remember thinking the floodgates were finally gonna open. Too bad they didn't keep dumping that many shows, but overall I'm definitely extremely happy with DMBLive

Grabbed 3/26/94 and 2/25/95 this afternoon. Haven't had a chance to get into them yet, but did a little sampling. I'll still take the band circa 2000 over any other era, but these '94-'95 shows are a treat to have. I love how much energy they played with, and I don't mean energy like tempo and volume, like now. This band just had a fire lit under them.

Bluewater34
11-30-2014, 01:11 PM
Ok, so I now have the following DMBLive shows, and this is in order from least to most favored.

11/26/94
5/10/95
2/25/95
10/24/02
3/3/99
4/7/95
3/26/94

Really those top 5 are all must-haves. Every one is a classic show in its own way.

On my list but not picked up yet are 10/22/94 and 10/24/96.

Bluewater34
12-18-2014, 03:52 PM

3/26/94
10/22/94
11/26/94
2/25/95
4/7/95
5/10/95
7/20/95
10/24/96
3/3/99
10/24/02

Keeping in mind that I'm not a big fan of the Greisar era, but not completely opposed to a good Greisar show, are there any DMBLive releases that I don't have yet that I absolutely need?

12/21/92, I'd say. Or recent 92 that was just released last June.

Mersh

The Town Point show is pretty decent, 4.10.93 has its moments and I enjoy the Albany 95 show (though the price is ridiculous given how short a show it is).

For reasons that I don't understand, I've discovered that if I use my credit card, I can buy up to three of these at a time and Musictoday only charges me for one. Strangest thing, and I've decided not to do it more than once a month so I can hopefully keep it under their radar, but that's the main reason my collection has grown so quickly.

Anyway, you've gotta get 3/26/94 and 10/24/02 next. Must haves.

:lol nice dude. I scanned a water bottle from a case at the self checkout by accident instead of the case's barcode- rang it up as 88 cents. Machine started saying "wrong item weight", and the employee just made it stop without checking the problem. I do it every time, and every time they are too lazy to even check so fuck it :lol

I'd check out that June '93 D&T show too fellas if you haven't. It's no 3/3, but really great IMO

Memphis and the revolver club shows are the only two dmblives I haven't purchased. I'm definitely never going to purchase the revolver show but I've always been mildly curious about the Memphis show. How does this hold up to the prism show?

I think the Memphis and Prism shows are essentially on a par with each other. It's cool to have early D&T shows, but neither is essential nor approaches the level of the '96, '97, and '99 shows.

OK, so probably not going to bother with either of the early D&Ts, so what's the consensus on the best of the three Greisar-era shows? I see a lot of talk about the Dec. 92 show, but I know the Jan 93 show was going to be officially released at one point in the past. Which is the better show? I'd like to have one of them, just to have a Greisar show. Right now I'm leaning toward the Jan. 93 one.
