Just think about the shows we normally would never have seen before if it weren't for this series giving them an avenue to push them out! It blows my mind. I didn't like the past few releases for sure, but I really had a feeling they'd throw us a bone.... and this is a friggin filet mignon bone for sure.

I think I might try to splice in the missing sections of Warehouse with the Vernal source for shits and giggles. I'm just so glad this show wasn't lost forever due to that error.

Well this whole acoustic thing they're pushing might have been a swing and a miss with the WH disc, but it was a homerun here

The image came from digging, I think. Jack always breaks the news, he's got to have a system for uncovering cover art. So while I really want it, at least we don't have to wait 6 weeks and if we found out the way we're supposed to, we'd get it right then

I don't remember another source coming out. I just remember the original one from the first DDS round that Allen & Mike put together. It was a tape from the balcony, and as Mersh said, is pretty bad. Getting this and 4/7 is pretty phenominal.

Not with that can't do attitude.

I was actually in 8th grade when the 2003 D&T tour was announced. I had been obsessed with Luther, so when I heard I begged my dad to take me to RCMH. I talked him into it, but of course the second I went to get us a pair of tickets when they went on sale I stood no fuckin chance. I thought it was game over once we saw the scalper prices too. My dad bought me a single in the first mez for $350 (couldn't afford a pair) and sat in Rockefeller center during the show for me. I'm really lucky he had a "can do attitude" haha, that show changed my life. Good guy. My poor mother was so fuckin scared that we were going to NYC with the war just starting too... 9.11/etc wasn't real to me until I saw ground zero and armed soldier's walking down the street while helicopters were standing guard over the ESB

Found one more. The almanac says this one from '92 was acoustic because Carter's hand was injured and Peter didn't play that night.

http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.aspx?id=453055714&tid=54&where=1992

Kind of cool, but I definitely prefer pretty much any '95 show to pretty much anything from '92, even without Greisar.

Nice find man. Now I wonder- was it acoustic simply because Carter was only on percussion, or were all members on acoustic instruments? I don't have that tape

And I'm with ya, the '92 shows are interesting and historically significant, but I don't think I ever listen to them in full for pleasure

I would say pretty much..... Like Yoshi's Carter plays almost exclusively without his sticks, just hand percussions and such.....
that's one of my biggest disappointments with the acoustic set last year, Carter using hand percussion the first two shows and then dropping that style for a more banging away with his sticks approach on too many songs..... I loved how two step and billies for example sounded without him really using his sticks the first two shows of the tour.

Awesome story, I love my parents to death, but they would have never done that for me if I was in the 8th grade. Growing up in good ole Iowa and having parents that didn't make much, they weren't going to let me go on my own or help buy me a ticket to a concert.

I hear ya! I had been playing guitar since I was 9 which is probably how I convinced them. My dad was just as obsessed with Luther disc 2 as I was as well.

It cannot be overstated how important that trip ended up being to my life either. I became more obsessed with guitar/music than ever before, the whole 9/11 thing finally became real to me, I decided right then and there I'd live in a city someday (I have since I was 18), and it lead to seeing DM about 60 times more of course. I didn't realize it at the time, but I definitely learned good parenting and how lucky I waa

It's amazing how something as small as a show in NYC can have such a profound effect on your life. That's music though..

He's got nearly the entire LP hand percussion arsenal on his left side. Also, it was funny how his cymbals went from splashes to 14 and 16" crashes to full on 18 and 19" crashes on the acoustic kit. I much prefer the entire kit if he's gonna play that way.

And I don't think I've seen a pic of Carter in the last 3 or 4 years where he didn't have gloves on. He even had them on at a restaurant one-time I saw. What is with that? Lol awesome conversation starter if nothing else.

I only had time to listen to Recently, but so far I really friggin love the way this one sounds. It's really raw, yet the clarity is really nice. Sounds like Dave's playing guitar in my living room. I'm trying to contain my excitement about this one until I get to listen to it a few more times. My first reaction to one listen though is this might be one of my all time favorites. It's kind of bridging the gap between my two favorite DM incarnations- '95 DMB and D&T.

Well, this Recently is a truncated version with a botched begining, so everyone should probably like the berkeley one better :lol

And I get liking Tim'd additions, but these tunes are so much more nuanced and are played with more purpose. Dave's guitar playing is much better here than anything he is dong now. Roi's sound is better suited for this acoustic platform than Jeff's, imho. There is that airyness to these songs. They give you the sense there is more going on than what is actually being played. Then end of the Graves jam is a good example of this. They are playing this simple little thing and it is so beautiful. And not just after the fact, that rude/rowdy crowd was actually silenced during it. Carter's adding a lot if things you might not expect. And this is before you even start talking about Boyd.

Just had a thought about this being acoustic. They talked in the intro about how they're shooting the Ants video the next day. Thinking about that video, I wonder if they decided to do this one acoustically because their gear, particularly Carter's, was already on the set for the shoot. Don't know why that popped into my head, but it did.

Also, this show is fantastic. And it sounds really, really good, too. I'm up to Typical, and I'm loving this whole thing. Graves and Minarets are the early favorites.

Everything about this makes it so fresh and unique. My very first thought was how great it was- but that had Tim been there it woulda been even more amazing (since D&T are my favorite)

I no longer think that though. How fucking cool is it to hear Roi solo over nothing but Dave's guitar, Stefan's bass, and Carter's very light percussion? It's unbelievable, and unlike anything else we've heard. I remember people saying the current acoustic setup wasn't truly acoustic, and I didn't really agree with them. This kind of makes me agree though- I mean this is as acoustic as it could get. This wouldn't be nearly as unique had it been fuller.

This is just as unique as it gets in every way possible:

-they're playing different instruments, and it really shows. It's so cool hearing Dave playing a much different guitar for example
-the way it was recorded is much different, which gives the whole show a unique feel. It really sounds to me like they were micing the instruments. I'm not sure if they also were plugged in, but I'm very confident Dave was not plugged in atleast. I've recorded a jumbo (Guild F50R) both ways and it really sounds like he's only miced. Just a guess though
-the mix... Man it just feels like I'm in the crowd. I love how raw it is! There's definitely without question some level issues (solos too low, etc)- but that just makes it feel like I'm at the show even more. Is it crazy that I think I'm enjoying this more than I would a well mixed LT version?

One thing isn't unique at all though- and that's the classic '95 energy that bleeds through these performances. Occasionally it hurts the songs (I think PFWYG is just a hair too fast), but overall I friggin love it.

Thank god you stuck around Jack and didn't move on despite having a family :lol it's scary to think how much stuff gets lost every damn year that'll probably never see the light of day now. Just look at the Muse videotape for example...

I don't watch many videos, but that one definitely sounds cool. DDTW especially

Findings myself surprised by this release. Typical might be the highlight. Jimi, WWYS, Nancies and a few others stood out to me too. But I was surprised to feel that I actually prefer the 2014 acoustic versions of about half these songs. For example, I think I actually like LT32's versions of Recently, Rhyme and Ants more. They feel fuller and have more to them.

Hmm, I like R&R and Ants much better on this release. R&R especially.

Love the freedom Carter and Roi display throughout this entire show. Say Goodbye acoustic is a really special thing, IMO.

Me too man. One of my favorite parts of R&R though is that simple little slide Tim does on the verses... that's the only thing I find myself missing whenever it's not there. But I definitely find this version way better for my tastes. Not as good as 2/18/97 though

Just having Boyd play his parts correctly actually makes a large difference for me.

I just listened to both of them back to back. Both are super good, I think Dave does a better job painting the lyrical picture with his vocals in the '95 one. It's pretty damn awesome that even 19 years later R&R still sounds amazing.

The vcd was first, actually think it was in real player files too at one point.
What Ethan got was the master VHS and would have been much better quality

How did the discussion on this drop off so quickly?

It's amazing how even while playing so laid back and quietly, Roi and Carter still dominate this show. Such an inspired choice for a release. I'm still just thrilled that we have this.

I'm with BW, can't believe we aren't talking about this

I didn't realize this is the first #40 until tonight. It's really cool to hear the debut

The ease in which Carter adjusted into this setting has to be one of my favorite things about this release. He sounds fantastic

I loved Stefan on it, he sounded great. I gotta be honest though- I thought they performed it a hair too fast for that setting. I wish they had slowed it down a bit similar to most D&T versions. It definitely doesn't stop it from being a really awesome unique version though

:upyours first time I played it, I got the feeling it was something really special just from that little DJ intro and the crowd's reaction to the band taking stage.

Hey, has anyone succeeded in finding any pics of the venue? I struck out given the generic name. I think the venue closed in '96, and was originally named Apollo (which doesn't make the search any easier). I'd love to see pics

Yeah I'm really glad you posted the link, that article was blowing my mind. Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Neil Young, etc in those venues? Goddamn. Depressing most are gone now

I'm just really glad I got to see DM at RCMH and Beacon.... I can't even begin to imagine venues like this

One of my high school teachers went to UVA from '90-'94, and the way she described how DMB was "their" bar band was also unimaginable for me. She saw DMB more times than alot of people even in this forum in that period, yet only went to a single show after they got big and decided never again since it wasn't the same experience

:upyours man I wouldn't even be upset if they burned 20 minutes of the acoustic set on it, it'd be amazing. Tim's acoustic fills are easily my favorite part of when those two perform it.. Just imagine those fills on a full band version. Definitely feasible, and I hope they give it a shot. Lets just pray it doesn't become Skreek Up

Add '99 for me as well. 1 release from that three year period of Summer Tours - my favorite period, is a rough one.

I don't have any idea when the next one might get announced. But if it's ready to announce, wouldn't the perfect time be the day of the tour opener? Right after LT33 comes out. I think I definitely would.

This is one of the few live releases that I can literally put on any time and get into. Most of the rest play to a mood, or season, or even time of day for me, but this one is an easy go-to at any time. So good. I love this Minarets.

Spot on. Didn't even realize this but it's the exact same way for me

The most amazing part about this show for me is that they still have every ounce of that '95 indescriable energy/hunger/whatever. None of it was lost despite the arrangements and the tiny ass venue. Yet with that said, alot of the song arrangements are unique. More so than alot of the current "acoustic" sets even, despite being a one off show

Honestly this might be my favorite release since LT23... And I fuckin love the Muse to death
