Are most of you doing this by studio version or live version? Studio vs live is a big difference for me.

not a bad song, but when you really talk about the cream of the crop, is that a top 5 or 10 or even 20 song?

Group-think

Same. Definitely some overlap, but two very different lists.

I always look at live, too many good songs haven't made the cut on an album or have kinda random weak versions that grew into monsters live.

Absolutely not groupthink. I’ve loved that song since the first day I heard it. Love, love, LOVE Dave’s guitar part. It’s really fun to play in a loop over and over. I think musically few other songs rival it.

I mean musically it's a solid song, no doubt about that. I would love for it to have not been seemingly abandoned over the years, but I can't help but feel that some love the song for what it could've been as opposed to what it was. The music, and vocal melody are fucking excellent, some of Dave's best, and the jams with Roi and Butch back in the day were fucking fantastic.
Lyrically I feel like it never lived up to its full potential. Sure Dave had plenty of decent improvs on it but as far as lyrics go it never came close to the likes of The Stone, Dreaming Tree, Seek Up, or even stuff like Nancies or Crush.

If they had gone in and really honed that song, and if Dave had laid out some real solid lyrics I think it absolutely would be deserving of a top 10 spot, but as it stands I don't think it beats out any of the songs I mentioned.

I wouldn't call it group-think though. People can like what they like. I can see why its such a beloved song, but I question if it's as deserving on its merits.

My list is a blend of both.

I always enjoyed Sugar Will...it's a great tune that surely deserved better than it received from Dave.

Overall, i think the Sugar Will love is really about the potential. Musically, i dont think its as complex as some of their best work, its closest to Seek Up to me, but that is on a completely different level.

I am also surprised, because people generally did not like it when it returned in 2016. Ive heard people trash the 2016 mansfield show, but for me I actually enjoyed it because I finally got to hear Sugar Will. Again, dont get me wrong i like the song, but agree it doesnt totally transform a set and make it super memorable.

In no particular order:

Typical Situation
Pig
JTR
Rapunzel
Warehouse (though I wish there were still a sax solo)
Snow Outside (studio perfection)
Lying in the Hands of God
Minarets
Lover Lay Down
Two Step
#41
The Last Stop
The Stone
Spoon
What Would You Say
One Sweet World
Idea of You
The Dreaming Tree
Seek Up
Recently (the chorus of 12.7.98 with Tim and Bela is absolute perfection)

Honorable Mentions:
The Last Stop (this lineup would kill it too, I hope they try it)
Sugar Will
Recently (the chorus of 12.7.98 with Tim and Bela is just perfection)
Spaceman (stupid lyrics aside, something about this song musically just clicks for me)
Stay (perfect pop song)
Ants Marching, Crush and Don't Drink the Water (probably all deserve to be on the list, but I've just overplayed them)
Bartender
Big Eyed Fish
If Only
Grace is Gone (circa '02)

Still too soon for me to rank the Come Tomorrow stuff. I'm not sure if Again and Again, Black and Blue Bird, Do You Remember, and Virginia in the Rain would crack the top 20 (they might), but they'd probably all be honorable mentions.
