It's kind of sad when you realize that this is a tough choice to make .

This better be a great album, and they better get a good replacement for Boyd, because this year is shaping up to be either a great or horrendous year for DMB.

This.

In 2001 they fooled us once, and the shame was on them.

In 2005 they fooled us twice, and the shame was on us.

Yeah I'm really not sure if it was 2001 or 2005. And 2006-07 aren't far behind.

I gather that the OP is asking about the “worst year” in their history, not the “worst year musically” or the “worst sounding year.”

I stand by my original assertion that the late 2000-01 debacle was the worst year and the turning point. 2005 was stuffed with horrible music played over and over, sounding awful. 2007 was pretty uninspired but I enjoyed the shows I went to.

In hindsight everyday tunes are better than standup tunes, but 2001 was such an unbelievable turn of events, much more shocking. Usually history doesn't repeat itself so quickly.

2000-01 was the worst for me. It was really the first time this band starting making bad some really poor decisions that impacted the future of the band. 05 was horrendous too, but I have to give the edge to the Everyday fiasco.

Just an observation. I read your posts, I'm on your side. I agree and like your outlook. That said, re: bad years, these two years are really sad years for the band we all fell in love with.

We've seen one Super Bowl show and lost a member of the band that very few people on this board even liked.

I'm on wait and see mode.

2001 gets my vote. Everyday really killed my buzz. Taking #36 and ruining it, not touring in Ohio or even Deer Creek really pissed me off back then as well.

2001. Throughout the year 2000, my fandom was growing and growing, reaching it's peak just as the tour was ending. 2001 was going to be my year of DMB; I was finally going to hit multiple shows and travel around a bit since my life and schedule allowed it.

Then Everyday happened. Ok, it's going to be fine, the tour will be awesome! Then Scott Stadium happened. Ok, it's a stadium show, my seats weren't great, first show of the tour, band is rusty with new songs, I'm sure the rest of the tour will be sweet! Then I hit the rest of my 5 shows in the next two weeks.

Sure, there were highlights and I had a great time, but I knew then that I had missed the boat. Had I peaked just one year earlier, I could have experienced something truly great. I still had hope for the band then, but now we all know that what happened that year was just a harbinger of things to come.
