Count me in, even though I'm not a big fan of this venue (and I'm not comparing to AV).

Yeah, I'd rather have Alpine. But this is my backyard. I'll be there.

Apparently they made some "improvements." Sounds like a lot of bullshit to me.

Spoiler:
Not even a polar vortex can slow down preparations for Chicago’s 2014 summer concert season.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, Live Nation Chicago has been working diligently this winter with architectural firm Valerio Dewalt Train to apply information and feedback gathered during the 2013 season at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion. As a result of this work, we are pleased to announce key improvements to the stage and sight lines at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island for the 2014 season.

For larger-scale shows at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion, the height of the stage floor will be elevated to a level conducive to clearer sight lines from all areas of the venue. In addition, the floor level of the seats closest to the stage will also be permanently elevated, allowing fans close to the stage to still enjoy the show at a comfortable eye level.

This improvement plan emerged from rigorous data collection and analysis involving measurement of various elevations and vantage points throughout the venue. The resulting changes will cater to fans from the front of the stage to the back of the lawn, further enhancing the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion experience.

Of course, the venue will retain its spectacular skyline views and refreshing lakefront breezes.

We look forward to welcoming Chicago area concertgoers to the improved FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island this summer. In the meantime, keep an eye out for summer concert announcements and other signs of spring – they may be closer than you think.

What they really need to do is eliminate the giant aisle between the front row of the 100 section and the stage.

(Not that it applies for these shows since it will all be GA).

Saw the Crowes & Tedeschi Trucks Band here last year and the 100 level had seating. I had 102 B (2nd row center) and was really looking forward to it, until I got to my seats and the Crowes set started and tons of people came up and decided to hang by the rail and the event staff didn't really care for sending people back to their seats. (There's a good 6-feet or so between the first row and the rail)

So I found tickets and I'm now heading to 7/5 show. Anyone have any input on parking, tailgating, or bars before the show? I don't know squat about Chicago and I'm heading from Iowa so I'm trying to figure out what to do before the show.

Not sure if there will be tailgating in the Soldier Field lots...but there could be.

Bars before the show will be the way to do it.

Does anyone know what time the gates open? AKA, when does the mad dash for the pit begin?

Had a great time hanging out at different bars before the show, and I loved Chicago.

The venue however, wasn't a fan at all. I don't think much will be up to the level of Alpine for me (other than a place like Gorge, Red Rocks, SPAC) but just didn't like much about the venue. The biggest thing I liked about the venue was the bathroom, concessions were about the fastest I've ever seen.
