20 year anniversary of YNK - 4/7/02
SoftMacho posted this on the "stuff that doesn't need its own thread" thread but I feel like it does.
This was a big moment in DMB history. We were fresh off one of the strangest times ever for "long time" fans after Everyday and its subsequent tour. Then this thing shows up on the setlist - and I think we got an AUD upload that night (this was in the days of the "two-week rule"). It was stellar, cathartic, bla bla bla (sandwich) but man, that was a big night and a glimmer of hope that DMB still had it. YNK to this day sits atop the list of my favorite DMB songs, and this night was an all-timer of the online community. We are old

The first ever same-day song I listened thanks to tapers and the internet. I sat stunned. Revitalized. Man, that was amazing. Thanks, tapers. Thank, Nancies.

I was at this show and the memory that always stuck with me is what I felt was dead silence in the crowd when they played YNK.
Maybe my mind just block all that background chatter out as I was just amazed by the song debut that was going on, but I remember hearing nothing but the song.

A musically complex song that took me a little while to become a fan of when I first heard it back in 2002. And it's been my favourite DMB song for a long time now.
Some of the best versions are the debut, 4/20/02, the one from Red Rocks '05 and 9/8/12. I also really enjoy the studio cut. YNK is a song I never am unhappy to see show up in a setlist. And thank god we finally got a Dave solo version. Now if Dave and Tim would try it...

I listened to the 4/7/02 version that night about 100 times. What a time to be alive.

I remember listening to an mp3 of it late that night, and just being absolutely blown away. It is my favorite version of the song. I hope they release an official soundboard of it someday.

I was there. That was a hell of a night. As Soft Macho said, that tour was everything the fans were looking for after getting the kick in the balls that was 2001. Yea I understand 2001 doesn’t look as bad in hind sight, but that is more commentary on what came after.

I was just getting into them at this time, so it was all new to me back then. I can imagine this felt amazing coming off Everyday. Like a "thank god" moment. Sort of like Idea of You felt in 06 coming off SU (though IOY is nowhere near as good a song as YNK).

I just listened to it. I got chills. What an amazing first performance of the song.

For some reason (aside from the ED songs), the band's first performance of a lot of songs are their best. Something about that first time live I guess.

That was the last time I felt the old school DMB community vibe.

That was a wild night.
It’s been played 110 times in 20 years. Criminally underplayed. I think both Jeff and Roi did it justice, so hopefully it stays in the rotation.
