I was thinking about A Dream So Real. It evolved from from a few two step intro improvs into a real song in the span of a week or two. A song with decent, legitimate lyrics (no jibberish or baby’s) and structure. And it disappeared just as fast. Given it was sort of Butch-heavy and the next tour he was gone, I guess that’s the most likely explanation. I didn’t think the one-off 2008 performance with Tim was bad, but it hasn’t been played since and that’s too bad. I wonder if they worked on it at all for Big Whiskey.

There’s nothing wrong, he can do what he wants obviously. I just think it’s better to just ignore the noise rather than purposely block people out. It’s his life obviously, so power to him. I just disagree with his decision

That’s very cool. So I guess they were considering potential older songs to go on this new album. I wonder if any of them will make the cut.

I've always assumed it was a song well before he used it in any two step intros, we just hadn't heard it in it's full form at that point, yet.

I dont think thats the right assumption, wasnt the story that one day during the 2007 tour they got together before a show and wrote the song as a band? That was one of the major turning points of the 2007 tour that they band was finally working together again and they wrote a song they all liked.

They stopped between KC and Alpine and recorded it in some studio. I don't think they had any sort of mobile studio at that point. I thought it was in one of the Road notes after a show, but I can't find it on the almanac. I don't remember them saying it was written then, doesn't mean it wasn't, I think it just said "recorded."

I went back and read the notes from the road page, but i didnt find anything conclusive. Maybe dave talked about it during one of the shows? its been over a decade so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Some research tells me it was in the 9/1/07 crew notes which we don't have in the almanac. Also Dave talks about going into the studio before the 8/31/07 performance.

Gonna try to find those road notes elsewhere.

There’s 100% a full semi studio version of A Dream So Real in the archives. Will we ever see it? I hope so. DMB will eventually become a band that is more revered for the stuff they didn’t release vs the stuff they did…it all depends when they decide to accept it
